Fruits and Veggies Monday | Cool Fruity Chocolate Delight and the Dog Days of Summer!

DSC_0023 (p2).jpg

We’ve finally seen the last of Hurricane Dorian!

I think she departed Nova Scotia this morning after a final blast of waves, wind and rain. It’s hard to believe this Hurricane was first named 15 days ago. We’re certainly all glad to see this one over and done with. Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with those affected.

Last week was a tough week for many, including the Steemit world. You may have noticed that because HF21 was buggy we were unable to celebrate Fruits and Veggies Monday! So thankful and pleased to see @lenasveganliving and @plantstoplanks are back with us, sharing another great week of healthy food! Thank you both!

Now we’re in “the dog days of summer”…

Familiar with that phrase? I remember my grandparents using this phrase when I was young. Usually this phrase refers to the late summer months with hot, humid and uncomfortable days and nights. Historically the phrase originated referring to the heliacal rising of the star system Sirius. Sirius, known by some as the Dog Star is the brightest proper star in the night sky. Greek and Roman astrology connected this star system to heat, drought, thunderstorms, bad luck and mad dogs We’re certainly feeling those hot and humid days right now, how about you?

When it’s hot outside this Bird starts making healthy cool drinks and icy treats!

Today we’ll use fresh Raspberries…

and Blueberries

taking care to wash them well! Both berries are packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, natures healthy candy!

4 Sweet and Simple Ingredients

  • Thai unsweetened Coconut Cream (1 can)
  • Fresh Raspberries (1/2 cup)
  • Fresh Blueberries (1/2 cup)
  • Dairy Free Dark Chocolate Chips (1/2 cup)
  • Optional: Organic Maple Syrup (to taste)

Melt the chocolate…

and coat the bottom of your candy molds. Place the mold in the freezer while we mix the fruity fillings!

Coconut cream and raspberries…

are lightly blended together. I love the chunky raspberry pieces. Taste and add a dash of Maple Syrup if you wish!

Fill the frozen chocolate molds…

And place them back into the freezer until the filling is firm. Repeat with the balance of your coconut cream and your blueberries! When the filling is firm, top with melted chocolate and freeze!

Have left over fruity cream?

No problem! Popsicles perhaps?

So are you entering fall days now? I can begin to feel a fall feeling here during October but right now it is HOT HOT HOT and humid! lol So glad you enjoyed them, cool and gloomy means soup time, lol Blessings my friend

Always pleasure my Dear Mrs. Bird 🌸💖🌸

We had humid day yesterday, but I think that was the last one! Today is cool and gloomy again, but tomorrow should be better. Sunny days are coming back, but not too hot.

When I first saw the pic it looked like it was a gift that had been given because it was so beautifully presented!

Glad to hear you have seen the last of the hurricane xxx

Thank you Jaynie! That is so kind, you know how what it's like to photgraphy food...sometimes the shots are good and sometimes not so much, lol September is a big hurricane month, so we'll stay vigilant! xx

Pretty much sounds like most of life 😏

So happy for Dorian to have gone away, and hopefully the dog days follow soon. ;) But even happier for FAVM to be back this week! Especially with such yummy treats. I so agree--a quick, easy, and healthy treat can't be beat! These most certainly fit the bill. :)

I know, I missed FAVM last week! I even prepared something special which I'll have to share soon :) You're so kind, thank you. I was in a chocolate mood...you know how that is, lol Perfect after a hot bike ride!

Those look so yummy, and I would make them if I had some chocolate chips to hand! Instead I'll have to imagine I'm eating them.
Hurricane Dorian is now heading our way, bringing rain and strong winds to Scotland. But we are very lucky, as we generally get just the tail end of hurricanes here. I have experienced two full-blown hurricanes - a freak one that hit Glasgow in 1969, when I was a tiny tot, and the freak storm that hit London in 1987, when I was living there. Luckily I didn't experience any damage to myself or loved ones in those storms.
However I have relatives in the Bahamas, and a few of them live in Abaco and Freeport. Thankfully they all survived, but the home of one of my cousins was completely destroyed, and another cousin had her house roof blown away. This kind of thing is unimaginable for me.
I'm really glad you didn't suffer too badly from that storm!

lol, love it @natubat! Wish I could send some your way. You would love these after one of your long hot hikes! :) As for Dorian...oh my goodness, I hope she's gone by the time she gets to you. I am so sorry about your relatives in the Bahamas. The news clips are unbearable. Did your family leave the island? From the pictures I have seen, the whole island is uninhabitable, such damage is unbelievable. We lived through Irma, the eye of the storm going over our subdivision, we also had a tornado taking our lanai cage and twisting it into a mess with our neighbors. Scary stuff. I don't think we'll evacuate next time as we know the house can take 141 mph gusts of wind, category 3 at that time. Evacuating is way too stressful!

Most of my relatives live in New Providence, which was not affected too badly, but a few were living in Freeport and Abaco, and yes, they did evacuate, thankfully. It's good to know that your house is that strong, but I would be terrified to sit through such a storm!

Good to see the end of Dorian for sure and my thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by it so much devestation and los sof life ;(

I had heard the saying Dog days of summer but did not know its meaning thanks for sharing

and those look so good

I know, I feel the same way @tattoodjay. The loss of lives just continues to grow. We'll stay vigilant for the month of September and pray for the best. Glad you enjoyed the cool treats, Mr. Bird was quite pleased, lol

Yes it is sad to see the toll growing still and I suspect it still will :(

In our country, this period also has its own name. The literal translation into English will be "Indian summer."

Ah yes, I have heard that term too @amalinavia! You know how it is...hot and humid :)

They look delicious 😋 hopefully this hurricane season ends up being very mild

Thank you @joelsegovia! September is the busiest month for Hurricanes, so we do stay vigilant! So glad you enjoyed the treat!

I live on Venezuela and it always breaks my heart to see how hurricanes causes destruction in the Caribbean islands and in the US...

Oh my WORD! This looks DELECTABLE! Upvoted and resteemed to save for later. ;)

Thank you @kindredacres! So glad you liked them, they're quick to make and so tasty. Just one bite will do it, lol :)

Chocolates really look divine

Thank you @truelovemom! So glad you stopped by, these are so easy to make hopefully you'll try them :)
