interresting fact about Ogbono(Irvingia gabonensis)
Hello steemians, how are you doing? for a while now I haven’t being talking on food and its benefit which is very bad. I will be teaching us how to prepare one of our popular soup Ogbono.
Ogbono Irvingia gabonensis, it is also know as African mango, bush mango, wild mango or dika (is a type of tree which bears fruits that looks like mango). This tree can also be known as the ogbono and it is highly nutrious in fat and protein. This fruit can be use to make jelly, juice, wine and jams.
Ogbono Soup is generally known Draw which allows smooth flow of Fufu Recipe, it makes it so easy because of its slimy nature which allows is to go down easily.
Most people love ogbono soup very plain, but I prefer it with vegetables, others might not eat it or touch it unless there is some kind of vegetables in the soup. Some people aslo love eating their ogbono with okro soup, some even love it if egusi is inside. Different people with different ways of cooking. I will be dropping a link on how to prepare light recipe for ogbono soup
• Vegetable (frozen spinach, pumpkin leaves or bitterleaf)
• 2 handfuls of ogbono seeds
• Assorted meat
• Fish,shaki, dry fish or stockfish
• red palm oil
• a spice or coffer grinder
• crayfish
• Pepper, Salt and onion
• seasoning and boullion cubes
- grind the ogbono with a mill till it very smooth
- make sure the assorted meat is well cooked
- seasoning with stock onions and cubes
- make sure the frozen spinach is not completely defrosted
- grind the crayfish and pepper
- pour the palm oil into a dry stainless steel or aluminum, set the stove and melt the palm oil on low heat.
- Once you are sure that the palm oil is melted turn off the heat and add the ogbono
- Dissolve the ogbono by using a spoon
- Make sure the ogbono mix before adding meat or fish in it. You can also add small water from the one you use in boiling the assorted.
- Keep stiring the ogbono until it as compeletely absorbed heat
- Add small quantity of hot water in it until it has completely absorbed water
- After 20 minutes, you should perceive the nice aroma of the ogbono soup
- Add the meat,fish,salt,pepper and crayfish to give it nice taste
N:B (the ogbono may be a little bit thicker at this stage, add more water and stir very well). Cover it, till the content is well heated
- You can also add vegetables in it and leave it to cook for some minutes
Botanically ogbono is known as Irvingia gabonensi. Ogbono is very rich in Ascorbic acid, Potassium, Iron, Amino acid, Sodium, Fibre, Fatty acid, Vitamin C, Calcium e.t.c
- Ogbono is useful in dental care
- Ogbono helps to regulate the cholesterol level in the body
- It has antidiabetic properties
- It helps in weight management
- It helps to prevents constipation
- It aslo has antibacterial and antifungal properties too
- It is very useful in the cosmetics production
