These are lessons and they have to follow certain rules set by the Steemit Team. It's the same for the points given. This wasn't our choice. Since there are 6 lessons this means the basics should be explained and practiced so everyone can learn how to free write. Is it about free writing alone? No. Since the focus is also on using the right hashtags, the title, and other aspects with the result is that even if you can't write you can still have a higher score.
If the points were given for the text only it would look completely different, that is for sure.
For now, I can't change much but with the next lesson, I like to see bonus points (even though 10 is the maximum). This is the only way to add more value to what is written. This has to be tried out but I think it's possible and also fair, at least that is how I see it.
