It must feel good to have had a mother who made you feel good. It sounds you both gave another what you needed. I can't say I experienced the same. The word "mother" is just a name to me and it's a very long time I saw the one who put me in this world, if she did at all.

My mother was a woman dedicated to her family and her work, when she died I moved away from the family and I do NOT plan to return.
It sounds like you did a good move forwards and that's the only thing that counts. It's like that song: Wherever I lay my hat, is my home.
We make home ourselves.. we carry it inside.
