The answering machine
It was just before midnight, when my home phone rang. Who could it be, I only have that line for the home alarm system. I listened in as the answering machine takes to call. I hear, "would you except the charges" I know what those five words mean, someone's been arrested. I picked up the receiver but it was too late, I got a dial tone. They always call back, so I waited and waited. About 20 minutes later the phone rings again, and I pick it up on the first ring. "This is a collect call from Johnny, would you except the charges?" I think, who the heck is Johnny. I said "No, no I won't except the charges" and hung up. The phone rings again, I let the answering machine get it. It happened two more times. In the morning I check the machine, "Johnny" left a message overnight, "Rosemary, I got out, you don't have to come pick me up".
This guy has the worse luck ever, called a wrong number to try and get help out of jail. I need to quit giving my business card to strippers! 😂
