5-Minute Freewrite - Prompt: California

“Where should we go?” Mina stood there staring at the horizon.

There wasn’t much to see, the place was a desolate landscape, covered by weeds and the occasional broken car. This view continued on for miles and miles, damaged buildings and smashed things strewn all over the land.

It wasn’t really surprising in this day and age. After all, the alien invasion caused worldwide destruction, cities were razed to the ground as the citizens of Earth tried to defend their home.

By some miracle, they managed to send the aliens back to their home planet with their tails between their legs, but then some idiot caused an outbreak of zombie virus. So instead of concentrating on rebuilding, humanity was forced to fight against their monster brethren.

Then, a team of scientist created a cure that saved thousands, no, millions from becoming flesh-eating, ugly corpses. Governments then started on planning for fixing up their countries, unfortunately, vampires thought it a good time to rise up and terrorize the human race. They craved blood and admiration, but honestly, they just looked like deathly pale ghouls, not like how the books and media portrayed them, with otherworldly beauty and grace.

Really, Mina thought, if it wasn’t one disaster, it was another. Now that the vampires were subdued, fae had suddenly appeared with the intention of enslaving humans to their will.

She turned to her side and eyed her companion. “So, where should we go?”

The man thought about it and said, “Let’s go to California.”

“What?! Why?”

“There’s Hollywood. And Chinatown.”
