5 Minute Freewrite: ceiling

The ceiling caved in for no good reason, and all the people caved down into the next level. They liked being cave people, after awhile, after they forgot about sunlight and birds, and when the cave caved in and they fell through to the underworld, they thought they were in heaven. There were gemstones that caught an invisible light that reminded them of sky, even though they had never seen sky, this many generations in. It made them happy. It made them unhappy. They yearned for something they had never seen and were no longer satisfied to live under the ground, but they didn't know there was anything but under. So they fell into a depression and that became the new normal and the first time a baby laughed, some generations later, they didn't know how to express the way that made them feel, so they laughed, too, and then, soon, the whole underworld was laughing. All the laughter in the underworld made the outerworld shake, and more ceilings cave in, until there were too many cave people for the underworld to support the weight, and the whole world caved in and was no more. And that's the end of that story. Grandpa looked around at all the grandchildren and they looked sleepily back at him.
