Late at night - 5 minutes freewrite (Day 103)

She wasn't hungry, but she felt like eating. Nothing fancy, though. The idea of a full meal did not seem very appealing at the moment. Maybe munching on crackers, curled up in the armchair, watching TV. She loved having something to munch on while watching a movie. And she did miss watching a movie, on her own, with the lights off.

She never used to be afraid of the dark. Now she was. She just hated the night, boring, stupid night, spent tossing and turning in bed, under the greenish glow of the lights in the silent hallway.
Here there was no TV at night, it was against the rules.
“You need a good night's sleep, dear.”
She knew better than to ask why did she need a good night's sleep? How's that gonna help?
Yes, curling up in an armchair with a box of crackers would be great. And maybe a beer. She longed for a cold beer.
“Time to turn off those lights, dear. You need to rest now”.
The soft soothing voice of Sheila, the night nurse. Same drill every night. Close the window, adjust the pillow, the morphine shot.
“How about a sip of tea, dear?”
“Yes, please”.
