Sure there are many songs about how money isn't everything too. But in most situations, money is the measurement for how successful you are.

I recently went for a wedding, and both bride and groom were doctors. And every time family and friends went up to talk about them, they'd mention their names attaching Doctor. It's a wedding, which means family and friends. We know each other. But they felt this need to keep reminding everyone of the couple's status. Because being a doctor, means you make a lot of money. You better recognise.

The more money you have the more successful you are. When we go to school, the mantra is, study hard and get a good job.

Good job equals good money

If you don't study hard, you will become a rubbish collector!

Rubbish collector equals no money

There's no pride in that!!

There is this story I once heard, about a fisherman. He went out every morning, caught enough fish for his family and a little more to sell at the local market for all his other needs which were simple. Once he was done at the market, he'd go home, spend time building things in his shed, kick ball with his sons, and go for walks with his wife.

Then came a rich tycoon, and he saw what a good hand the fisherman had. The fisherman always knew where the fish were. And he asked the fisherman to join him.

"But why?" asked the fisherman. "I am happy here."

"But you can be happier."

"How?"

"Well, if you join me in my business venture, we will catch lots and lots of fish."

"What would we do with lots of fish?"

"We'd sell them, and then buy more boats and catch more fish."

"Why?"

"So we can have lots of money."

"What would we do with lots of money?"

"Then you could do whatever you like. What do you like?"

"I like fishing, and spending time in my shed building stuff, kicking ball with my two sons, and walks on the beach with my wife."

"Bravo!! Then that's what you'll do!" the tycoon was ecstatic that he had made the fisherman an offer he could not refuse.

"But I already do all that Sir!"
