5 min writing prompt "Three Grapes" #freewrite

He stares down at the grapes left outside his door. Three grapes. After glancing up at the silent and empty neighbourhood, he slips silently back into his house.

Susan and the kids still aren't up. He should go back out there and remove the grapes. But he can't just yet.

They won't even know what the grapes mean. But he does. And later...

He rushes to the door. But now the grapes are gone.

He'd wanted the vineyard to himself. At the top of the vat, so many years ago, Marcello had held three grapes over the wine below. "I always add three special grapes of my own," the old man had said, and as he leaned over to make his offer, the younger man had taken his shot.

They'd found the body a day later and it had been ruled an accidental drowning. He was in the clear.
