Today's 5 Minute Freewrite - Small Talk

Today's topic is small talk. I don't like small talk. To me, it seems to be a waste of time. Maybe there is a time and place for it. Maybe you are in a waiting room and the person next to you just needs to talk to you, but you are not really into it because you have things on your mind. I think that's what bothers me about small talk. If feels insincere. I will talk to you, but I don't really want you to know anything about me. I want to talk to someone, but not really. So you just talk about whatever pops into your head and say it. Not really thinking, and not really saying much at all. You are hearing but not listening, talking without saying anything at all.

"Lovely weather today!" , "Looks like rain today" Yeah, I noticed, I was just outside.
It's not that I don't like talking. I love talking to people and getting to know them, heck, it's my job to talk to people. But when I talk to you, I want to know about YOU. What are your dreams, what do you love to do, how did you get here and where are you going. I like details, not generalities. I love to meet new people and feel like I know something important about them. Its how we build connections and start relationships. I don't know if it is that way for anyone else, but that is how I feel. I feel like small talk are just empty words, nothing important is talked about, nothing at all, like aiming at the wind, it is just pointless. I may be just a dreamer, or maybe I am just nosy.
