Day 103 - 5 Minute Freewrite: Tuesday - Prompt: cracker
Here's my Day 103 - 5 Minute Freewrite: Tuesday - Prompt: cracker
When I was a kid my parents took us on camping trips. There would be all sorts of things we would do, but the thing I remember most are the s'mores and the gram-crackers my mom would bring along. My parents would sit back, drink, and talk with their friends as my brother and I cooked our s'mores over an open fire before we headed off to bed - my dad and brother in their tent and my Mom and I in the back of our conversion fan. I wasn't a fan of bugs, of which I am still not. I actually have quite a phobia but that's for another time.
My mom would make sure we had all the fixing for the s'mores but she also made sure she got the cinnamon gram-crackers, not the plain ones, because what kid doesn't want cinnamon and sugar? My parents made sure we had a great time on our camping trips. And they are times I won't forget. So when I hear cracker, I don't think of soup, or a sour tummy that needs saltines; even though I think of that too, my mind automatically goes to those camp fires and my mom and dad's smiles and my big brother teasing me about not knowing how to roast a marshmallow. I do by the way, I just happen to like it burnt.
Yes, that's what I think of when I hear cracker - family.

Wonderful story! Now I want to go camping - but there's no way I'm going to go camp in the snow. Maybe in a few months, heh. :-)
haha, I hear that. Too cold for that right now, no way! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!! :)
A beautiful memory. It's amazing how a sound, a smell or a taste can transport us to a distant place.
