5-minute Freewrite: Prompt- Essence
What maketh a man?
Not a very straight forward question.
Definitely not his clothes, though it would help to be presentable. Nobody likes a messy person.
Before I ended my dating scene, I had the opportunity of crossing paths with a number of interested and interesting people. Some were great, some were alright.
Why didn't they make the cut? They were great guys, but I suppose you could say, they weren't great for me. And of course, I for them.
Funny how someone who used to be so ambitious and nerve-wrecking such as myself, (and maybe still am) would find her way to someone so still and quiet. He wasn't just a breath of fresh air, he felt like home.
I have forgotten how many times I've fallen head over heels over the same man, the one who made me a lover, a wife, a Mama, gave me two babies, and still enjoy having me as a friend.
He is kind. Checked.
He is responsible. Checked.
He is funny. Checked.
He loves family. Checked.
He is wise. Checked.
He is a great listener. Checked.
He shares the chores. Checked.
He has dimples. Checked.
I like him. Checked.
Like a hearty bowl of chicken soup, you take the time to prepare the ingredients, making sure everything that is needed is cooked well in its designated time and temperature in order to retain its wholesome nutrients.
A wholesome bowl of chicken soup does not only quench your thirst, it fills your belly and warms your heart and soul. If you're a soup person like me, you know a wholesome bowl of soup spells home.
Making and cooking the soup takes time, and such is the essence of a person. Such is also the nurturing of relationship. We grow through thick and thin, and we learn to be abase and abound.
I'm glad to be a witness as well as a partaker in this relationship, as we journey alongside each other.
