Have you ever thought about prohibiting self upvoting using your service? @shadowbot just did, and I think all voting bots should. We have a responsibility to the blockchain to prevent gaming the system for profit.
Every Post Has A Promotion Button At The Bottom. Is that ok? I think most people miss the bigger picture here. Self Voting Would Be Taking Your UPVOTE power and UPVOTING your own post. This is done by whales daily non stop on multiple post per day. Go say something to them about that for sure.
As far as promoting a high quality post to help it get some traction I don't see any difference between using upvote bots and the post promotion button accept the upvote bots actually don't just take your money! I could send 100 SBD to Post Promotion Button and see nothing in return. Plus sending money to multiple accounts is better for the ecosystem than one centralized account that stores it up and doesn't put it back into the economy.
HOW MUCH OF THE TOTAL STEEM ECONOMY IS AT THE BOTTOM?
Say under 500 Steem in their accounts is considered the bottom? What is that total as a percentage of the entire economy? Once you get this you will understand how vital this decentralized top down currency works.
Buying upvotes from bots verses paying to being a member for minnow support, steemvoter, or having enough money to build a private chat service and setting up communities to discuss how dolphins and whales trade upvotes through guilds, faucets, lotteries,etc. There is not alot of difference with the end result. Plus the bots are safer usually than just sending some random person who says they will give you an uvpote some Steem Block Chain Dollars.
There is an actual scam going on and that should be raised up the flag pole and those people scamming folks for resteems and whale upvotes that never happen, these bad actors should be banned. More time spent education new members about such scam would be helpful too.
There are many more worthy places for people to put their efforts that would benefit the Steemit Platform. Keeping newly acquired users growing on the platform is essential for Steem moving up in price. If you have zero people coming to a high quality well written post and making no dinero how long would you keep working? The answer is not very long. So helping new people get a little traction past the 6 original Steem Power They Receive now is a challenge.
No matter which side you fall on perhaps the real focus should be on the Elephant in the room not the new folks trying to get their start on a wonderful platform designed to allow people to make money for doing what they love!
I would love for people to join the https://SteemThat.com movement and community to talk about these real issues and help find solutions to real problems that effect the community not just now but 1, 2 and 5 years from now. You need users to make it that long. Try not to beat up the minnows too much. They are just trying to grow like the rest of us and when they do there is more crypto trading and buying goods and services which will what? Drive Steem prices up!
When you think about what appears to be a problem at first glance you have to step back and look at the big picture.
Not how you feel about it but how will it actually impact and then how do your possible solutions impact the community, currency, and masses. Sometimes the solutions have worse consequences.
Side Note: I do encourage users to upvote others first before themselves. I personally found that by doing this that I had better results due to up-votes on my comments and people would follow and often return the favor. Are you really arguing the idea that a "upvote this post for a share of the earnings" post is high quality? Bahahaha
The 'Promotion' button literally destroys the SBD used, decreasing the total amount, thus increasing the value.
My problem with self-upvoting using bots is that it is simply a way to turn a profit, which violates the guidelines set forth by the Steem Whitepaper.
I know that whales are the biggest abusers of this platform, and I've got something in the works that will give them a punch in the gut, too.
Beating up on minnows that try to get 0.50 or 1.000 SBD per post is a foolish waste of time. If the system was set-up better there would not be any need for any upvote bots. If the community doesn't like their post or thinks it is junk they can down vote it or flag it either way. Or simply just not give it another upvote. There was still work performed at least. The Quality Value Of A Post Is Completely Subjective. Copy and Paste Plagiarism Is Never Tolerated Period.
If you get Zero benefit from post promotion using the post promotion button you have been stolen from. PROMOTION should involve some promotion. The fact that the SBD is destroyed is irrelevant as the users that lose their earned SBD have nothing now to show for their work and quit the platform.
Minnows upvoting their own posts or friends effects the system with more pros than cons. Whereas the huge enormous problem of whales self voting is nothing but cons. Running new people away from Steemit is foolish. Time spent helping them learn and grow would be prudent. Once people get to a certain level the use of upvote bots is almost non-existent. It is a help aid until something is corrected.
It sounds to me like you haven't read the Whitepaper... Downvoting is just as important in determining the value of a post. Not everyone is going to like everything, and those with more stake have more say in what is to ne considered valuable.
Steemit isn't just about upvotes. The further a post spreads, the more accurate the percieved value of said post is. Some are going to upvote it, some are going to downvote it, and what's left at the end is the value it holds as according to everyone who voted whether it was good or not.
I'm not here to "beat up minnows", I'm here to encourage minnows to create content worth reading or participating in. Gathering upvotes to spread money around is not valuable content in my eyes.

People like you abusing the system are worse than whales upvoting themselves. Pathetic. Spend your time doing something useful. Go Help A Minnow Grow. Or Message Them And Try To Help Them.

I encourage you to read the Steem Whitepaper, where the voting and rewards system is explained, as well as how the true value of a post is determined. Your slander seems to be founded in a misunderstanding of the platform.
