Football Prediction #8 (2/08/2021) - Scottish Championship: Kilmarnock v Ayr United

in #football3 years ago

It's the opening Ayrshire Derby tonight as Kilmarnock entertain Ayr at home in the first game of their Scottish Championship season.

The big team news for the Killies is the signing of Middlesboro striker, the very promising 20-year-old Rumarn Burrell on a seasons loan who follows their other signing, goalkeeper Zach Hemming.

Tommy Wright, Killie's manager suggested that he would be thrown straight into today's matchday squad.

Former Leeds player and current Ayr manager, David Hopkin had had a busy close season signing keeper, Charlie Albinson, Irish midfielder Daire O’Connor and highly rated Rangers prospect, James Maxwell on a year long loan.

None of this is really going to help them however, Kilmarnock dropped from the Premiership after being relegated through the play-offs and will be hot favourites to go straight back up whereas Ayr finished 8th from 10 in the Championship after a poor season and I'm not sure the signings are going to make much of a difference unless Maxwell can hot the ground running and set the league on fire.

Kilmarnock will be a little worried about struggling in their 2-1 win over Stranraer in the Scottish League Cup and in the same round, Ayr hammered Falkirk 3-0.

Prediction: Kilmarnock 3 : 1 Ayr United - First goal scorer: Burke
