Mama'a Budget Beater #5 - Spicy Durban Chicken Curry

Anyone who has visited my home town Durban, will tell you that the best curries outside India are to be found here.
Mama's lovely friend Jashiela taught her how to make a good Chicken curry, and she admitted that it surprisingly tastes authentic :)

Therefore we confidently lay claim to the best curries in South Africa, not that Mama claims to make the best, but it still tastes very good!

Back to Budget Beaters, she previously showed you how to make:
1. Cottage Pie or Shepherds Pie
2. Vegetarian Lentil Moussaka
3. Hearty Beef & Veg Hot Pot with Coke
4. Bacon & Cheese Creamy Pasta
Now the how-to for a fragrant spicy Durban Chicken Curry.
Ingredients required:

Awesome paste available from one of our large food stores plus fresh Coriander leaves.

Place a thin layer of oil in a deep pot, add the following spices - 1/2 teaspoon Chilli Powder, 1 tablespoon Curry Powder, 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder, 1/2 teaspoon Roasted Coriander Powder, 1 teaspoon Jeera/ Cumin Seeds, whole Cloves, Cinnamon Stick, Bay Leaves, 1 teaspoon Turmeric
Sautee crushed Garlic & diced Onions in spices.

Add Chicken pieces and brown on both sides.

Add 1 tin Indian style Tomatoes - this is a quick fix for any curry, plus add salt to taste.

Fragrant steam billowing from the pot.
Cover with lid and cook over a low heat for about 40 minutes.

Precook diced potatoes in microwave as they will take forever to soften once they come into contact with the curry.

Add potatoes to the curry and continue cooking till potatoes are soft.

Place Curry leaves and fresh Dhania (Coriander) leaves on top.

Ooohhh, I need a good Durban masala. I'm just not getting the right mix here :( Full flavoured, fragrant and hot! Been adding Kashmiri chilli powder to a 'Durban' masala mix but it's just not the same. Please send me the real deal :)

They are new recipes for me but for the ingredients I know they are good, I can imagine the smell of the smoke that comes from the pot that looks delicious
