Ulog 16: Banana Leaf Rice and Curry

My favourite cuisine of all time and I can't get enough of has to be Indian food. Everything about it is delicious. From the curry to the varieties of vegetables and various meat selections that's all cooked in special modes of spices, it's the kind of food that hugs you from the inside out. It warms your tummy and gets you into a slight ecstasy when it's all over and a preferable nap would soon follow.

There's this place which has been around for many years but I recently saw that the signboard has changed. True enough it has switched ownership and the new owners of the place are keeping all the dishes the same but the quality is definitely better than it was.

The curry was more flavourful although it wasn't a very thick curry. It was spicy and hearty like how a curry suppose to be. The vegetables were cooked well too although it wasn't as heavily spiced as I would like, it still was satisfying.

So what is banana leaf rice? It's basically a usual Indian meal but served on a banana leaf. You also can refill the vegetables, rice and curry like how you would at a buffet. It's sorta an all you can eat rice and curry feast. Besides your choice of meat, everything else is refillable.

At most places you get a choice of dhall (lentils curry), fish, chicken or mutton curry to go as the gravy with your rice. I normally go for a mix of fish, mutton and dhall. If I'm really craving and hadn't had curry for awhile, I'll go for just fish curry coz that's my favourite curry flavor.

Some specialty curry houses serve unique types of variant to the usual 4 types of curry. Some places serve crab curry or salted fish curry. Those are really good as well and not as common to find.

Whenever I go for banana leaf, if budget allows, I'll go for one of my favourite drinks. Pulled tea and in this case, a spiced masala pulled tea. Various spices ground and mixed with warm milk tea. Truly the very best way to end a rice and curry meal!

A banana leaf meal with a glass of milk tea would cost you about RM10.50/USD 2.50 here in Kuala Lumpur. If you ordered a side dish of chicken or mutton, it'll cost you a little more. But just a simple vegetables, curry, rice and tea would be around that budget.

Although my ratings isn't too excellent, satisfaction of having curry is almost always a 5 for me whether it's awesome or average. Yummzz!
