Green tomato fritters

Today a recipe in the shape of a gluttony wink to the great movie "Green Tomato Fritters" from the book of Fannie Flag (Fried Green Tomatoes).

Passing these pretty Green Zebra tomatoes yesterday, I could not help but think about the famous green tomato donuts at Whistle Stop Cafe, nor can I imagine how many people like me now associate green tomatoes with this very nice story. And this simple idea gives me a crazy smile. Cooking is also a business of stories, memories. And often we are more attached to what a recipe represents that the recipe itself, it is also what makes it so difficult for some to change the diet. Yet we can create new stories and memories, and weave new family traditions, because what matters most is to get together around a common story.

I am convinced that cooking can make you happy. If we put all our heart in a recipe, we can touch others. And I'm also convinced that the simple act of cooking can change the world, that changing the way we eat can change a lot more. The vegan cuisine is for me a profound vector of change, sharing this cuisine, we share the idea that a world where we do not exploit animals is not only possible but very easy and enjoyable.

For this recipe, I looked at the American cuisine, which uses corn a lot. The donuts are therefore more gluten free! To prepare them nothing more simple!

ingredients

Green tomatoes
Cornstarch
Water
Corn flour
Salt pepper
Basil leaves (optional)
Grape seed oil

▴▴▴

• Wash and cut tomatoes in slices or quarters.
• In a bowl mix 3 tbsp cornstarch with 4 tbsp water.
• In a deep dish pour corn flour, salt and pepper generously (not too much huh!)
• Dip a piece of tomato in the water-starch mixture, turn it into the corn flour and start again, so the donuts will be well covered. Proceed for all pieces of tomatoes.
• In a skillet pour a bottom of oil (1/2 cm for example), and to bring to sharp fire (your kitchen will feel the frying, thus windows opened, hood with bottom and closed doors)
• Brown donuts a few minutes, place on paper towels to remove excess fat.
• Serve immediately

➤ THE mega greedy tip, before plunging the pieces of tomatoes into the mixture of starch and water, "stick" a sheet of basil, the donut will be ultra fragrant, a real treat believe me!

Obviously this is not the most dietetic recipe in the world, but some donuts from time to time when you have a healthy diet, it is not very bad. And damn it's good!
