TacoCat's TrEats #173: Delicious Dim Sum and Nummy Noodles! 😋

Hey Steemit!

Even though there are still people getting covid, it's basically being treated like a cold these days so thankfully almost everything is back to normal now! There are no more restrictions on dining these days and you don't even have to wear a mask anymore if you don't want to! It's a huge relief and this allows us to try out different food places again!

We had a voucher to use at this restaurant called Imperial Treasure which we've actually never been to before. Imperial Treasure showcases some of the finest Chinese food in the region, with a focus on Cantonese cuisine. I always get confused by the different Chinese restaurant groups we have here in Singapore but this is one of the more prominent ones given that they're Michelin-starred as well.

image.png

Most of their outlets are located in the city center of Singapore so we made our way to the Raffles City one as it was the nearest and probably the least crowded of them all. I think the voucher was specifically for their Yi Dian Xin outlets (which are their dim sum branches) as well, because they have different outlets for different cuisines and/or dishes like Steamboat, Peking Duck or Teochew and Shangai cuisine.

This particular outlet in Raffles City was quite nice and modern, compared to some other fine dining Chinese restaurants we've been to.

image.png

They had nice light wood furniture with deep turquoise cushions and while the entrance was a little cramped the area in the back was a lot more spacious and had more booths and tables here. Most of the tables were for 4 though, since I guess most of their patrons are families.

image.png

We were shown to a table in the back area and as it was still fairly early there were more than enough seats available. The table already had menus there and a QR code for us to scan to place our order, which I find a lot more convenient than the servers manually taking down orders.

image.png

Here's the menu, which included variations of congee, Hong Kong rice dumplings, Vermicelli Rice Rolls (or chee cheong fun), some roasted meats like duck, chicken and pork as well as a few side dishes.

image.png

The other side of the menu had the dim sum dishes, mostly the common ones you'd find in any dim sum restaurant but they had a few unique ones as well. And they had some Hong Kong noodle dishes as well.

image.png

Our voucher was only worth about 30 bucks so we couldn't order too much but we chose some dishes that we wouldn't typically order. Since this was a dim sum restaurant we chose mostly the dim sum dishes along with one noodle dish.

One must-try dish whenever we come to restaurants like these is Roasted Pork! It's one of our favourite meats and are typically labelled as an appetiser in Chinese restaurants like these.

image.png

Their Roasted Pork came with a side of mustard and some peanuts which was a little odd, but at least it's better than decorative greens. The skin was nice and crispy, and the meat was juicy and delicious!

image.png

The next item to arrive was our chee cheong fun! We ordered their special Steamed Rice Roll with Roasted Duck, since we wouldn't be ordering the actual Roasted duck and we figured this would let us try it at least a little.

image.png

It was actually pretty good and quite unique since I've never had duck in a rice roll before. Typically these are filled with either shrimp or pork. The rice roll was also fairly thick and could still hold its shape when I picked it up. It was nice and smooth and the meat was savoury.

image.png

The next dish was actually the noodles which was surprising since we thought our dim sum would show up first. We ordered the Shrimp Wonton Noodle with Soup and it looked like a good decent serving. There were 4 wontons in the soup and it didn't look too oily on the top.

image.png

The noodles were the thin Hong Kong style noodles that I liked, but still not my specific favourite HK noodle. It was still good though; nice and bouncy and the soup was savoury and quite light. We did want a little spice to it though so we added the chili to it and it was a lot better.

image.png

The wontons were also quite big and juicy and had a decent sized shrimp in them. It's been a while since I had this kind of wonton so it was a nice reminder of how tasty they are!

image.png

Finally our dim sum dishes arrived! We ordered our favourite - Deep Fried Beancurd Skin Roll with Shrimp!

image.png

This is always a go-to for dim sum dishes since they're so delicious! Even Sean who's not a huge fan of shrimp loves these. This particular one is a little different compared to others that I've had but it was still nice and crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle. Although the shrimp inside wasn't as thick as I thought it would be from the wonton.

image.png

The other dim sum dish we ordered was the Pan-fried Chive Dumplings! This one was unique since we've never seen a dim sum dish like this before. But we do like chive dumplings so we decided to try it.

image.png

They looked pretty cute and the dumpling was actually made with a glutinous rice skin instead of normal flour dumpling skin. It made it quite sticky but still really tasty especially with the meat and chive filling inside!

image.png

Since it was pan-fried it was a little crisp on the top and bottom as well. Overall it was actually a pleasant surprise how delicious it was!

Sean also wanted to try these Deep-Fried Glutinous Dumplings which were really interesting! It was definitely very filling and had some meat on the inside but I'm not a huge fan of glutinous rice because of the sticky texture so he made most of it. It was still pretty yummy though!

image.png

I think the glutinous rice and the noodles made this meal filling because I was so stuffed after that! I also finished most of the soup even though it was a little too spicy after we added too much chili. Overall it was a very delicious meal and we'd definitely go again if we could!
