Our First (Vegan!) Restaurant in Mexico City
On February 12, 2018 at 11am we landed at Benito Juárez International Airport, Mexico City. We paid top dollar at an airport taxi stand ($265 Mexican Pesos, which was about $15 US dollars) to go 22mins South to Paraiso Vegetariano, a vegan locally sourced restaurant.
The front of the restaurant has local produce both for sale and for use in the restaurant. We dragged our suitcases through the entrance and made our way to the seating in the back. There was plenty of room and a relaxing cozy ambiance.
We quickly learned that no one spoke any English but we were still able to communicate with my limited Spanish and managed to make our choices from the all Spanish menu. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, they welcomed us in and treated us like family.
We started with a delicious fresh juice and a capuccino to go.
Then treated ourselves to their house hamburger and hot dog, the vegan versions of course. I'm sure we made them chuckle with our classic Gringo choices.
Buen Provecho!
The hamburger was juicy and the sauce was sweet and delicious. The hotdog was far from the American version but still good. The bun was toasted and there was no sauce but I enjoyed it none the less. The food was clearly quality and although we weren't super thrilled we would definitely still come back.
It's great to see these kinds of places popping up all over the world. Our food experience in Mexico was excellent, not once did we get sick or have any kind of indigestion the entire time.
