TERREMOTO! Cocktail recipe for a traditional Chilean "Terremoto", also know as the adult ice cream float!

in #food8 years ago

Ok, so this is not a fancy @macksby cocktail by any means, but it is easy and refreshing!

So I'll start off by explaining that on September 18, 1810, Chile broke away from Spanish rule, formed it's first governing body and became an independent country. Every year on September 18th, Chile celebrates it's independence by breaking into festivals, asados and drinking...lots of drinking. Among the drinks served is a very popular one called the Terremoto, or Earthquake in english. I say it's popular, because every store in Chile puts it's stock of cucumber wine and Grenadine on sale 6 weeks in advance! No, seriously.

I know what you're thinking, "Cucumber wine and grenadine? Gross". Two days ago I would've considered us on the same page...But yesterday I had my first taste and it was actually rather refreshing! There are many versions of this drink, but I am going to share the most common recipe with you today.

Ingredients:

There are only four simple ingredients for this cocktail

  • Pipeño wine, also know as cucumber wine (You can switch this out for a sweet white wine of your choice)
  • Grenadine, although it is also common to switch this with a mint licqueur
  • Fernet-Branc
  • Pineapple ice cream

Directions:

  • Add two - three small scoops of pineapple ice cream to a 500cc glass
  • Add 1/2 of a shot glass of Grenadine
  • Fill the rest of the glass up with the chilled cucumber wine
  • Add a splash of Fernet-Branc on top
  • Lightly stir with a straw and enjoy

And there you have it! A Chilean masterpiece! Drink. Relax. Repeat.
