I have specifically omitted the name of the owner of this photo in absolute respect for their anonymity.

Most people will say, "So what? It looks like a good meal."

Years ago, I would have agreed. Considering the time taken to prepare such a meal and the careful and deliberate presentation of the veggies, I ask:

"Why spoil it with a slice of an innocent animal?"

Alternatives are only a Google search away. In fact, 'vegan dinner options' returned "About 20,300,000 results (0.24 seconds)".

Excuses, excuses.

Every time I post something like this I grimace at what people are thinking. Words like proselytising, opinionated and self-righteous come to mind. There have been occasions where thankful was mentioned.

This is a reminder that I always think of the people who have sent me personal messages of why veganism isn't just food you eat, it's the lives you've saved.

Heroes are presented on tv and the media as those people saving a child from a burning house or rescuing a stray dog. Every time you abstain from your ham sandwich you're saving a life. EVERY TIME.

You're the hero.

All the best,

Nick.

I’m still looking for an artist to cover my work on my fantasy saga, Adventures in Elowyn Glade.

Another great post Nick. And I'm going to spam you with my comment again :)

A few years ago I was the biggest meat eater you can imagine. I would have ordered a steak a few times a week and I couldn't imaging having a meal without an animal product.

I loved expensive leather bags. I had a great collection of bags from the most famous designers. You could buy a flat in my home town for what I invested in the bags. Don't judge me please.

Then I got to see the movie What the health.

I became vegan for animals over night. I was crying about how selfish I was all my life and I decided I will NEVER go back.

I have changed my life completely. Vegan doesn't mean food only for me. I make sure there are no animal products in our household, starting with toilet paper :)

It was the best decision of my life and I realize I am much more happy now when I know how many animals I have saved and that I don't contribute to the horrible system anymore.

Thank you for your article. It reminded me about how happy and proud I am to be VEGAN!

Hey Delish! It's good to have you spamming me again.

This was a bit of a lazy post with words I had expressed quite some time ago, but I'm glad it had an impact, even it was to just remind you of how awesome you are.

May I ask when you went vegan? My veganniversary was at the end of 2012 (November-ish).

Cheerio!
Nick

I have not become an official vegetarian yet; but it’s been about 6 mounths that I’m decreasing meat in my meal week by week. I hope I will make it by summer.

Good for you! Your health will improve (even if you thought you were healthy) and you'll have so much energy.

Congrats on making such a positive move in your life.

Nick.

Hey Nick! Thank you for coming back to me :)

Wow! Well done you!!

I'm a newbie in comparison to you! :) My veganniversary was at the beginning of Feb last year :)

Tschuus :)

Woo hoo! Congrats.. veganniversaries are awesome.

I am a newly reformed vegan myself. I used to be one of the biggest meat eaters around, I used to smoke my own meats (I still own a smoker) ranging from pork through to beef, chicken and everything you can imagine in the protein department. I used to also make my own jerky and compete in competitions.

Which is why people were surprised when I announced I had gone vegan. I became a vegan in 2017 and I stuck with it for a full year and then I shamelessly relapsed into my meat eating ways after I went through a dark period in my life where family and personal matters were making things difficult for me.

I recently only became vegan again and I intend to keep it that way. That photo you shared in your post of the steak looks disgusting to me now. But just a short while ago I would have been salivating over that piece of steak.

I am not afraid to admit that my reasons for going vegan are not purely related to the treatment of animals (my health is important to me), but it does weigh in slightly. It does make me sad whenever I've seen a truck carrying chickens stacked on top of each other on the highway pass me or how animals are treated (even animals allegedly organic and free range). Pork absolutely disgusts me, I can understand why Islamic law forbids the consumption of pork products, it really is gross and I can't stand the smell anymore.

The timing is better than ever for people to go vegan, it has become a growing movement that has expanded beyond its moniker of being only a "hippy pot smoking environmentalist" thing. Where I live there are tonnes of vegan places popping up, when I make my next trip to Moo Free Burgers (a vegan burger restaurant) I'll share some photos of their epic and tasty vegan burgers.
