👉 Meat in a VEGETARIAN DIET, is it possible? 🤔

in #food6 years ago

Hello,

a few days ago, I wrote about vegan source of protein. Today I would like to tell you about mock meat, meat for vegetarian.

Vegan "pork" in sweet and sour sauce

Mock meat or fake meat is a substitute for meat. Produced mainly for vegetarians and vegans, to replace the nutritional value of meat, mainly protein. There are also people who want to reduce the saturated animal fat in their diets.

Flat rice noodles in a creamy tofu sauce with vegan "prawn", stir fried with red pepper, zucchini, mushrooms, pak choy and konnyaku.

Mock meat also provides taste and visual experience as well as texture and heat treatment options similar to animal products. You can fry them, bake and cook like chicken or beef.

Vegan "meat" is made of soy or wheat. One of the methods of production is to pull the "sheepskin coat" of boiling soy milk. Seitane is produced from wheat protein (gluten). We can buy a substitute for meat in a can or in the form of frozen "fillets".

Vegan "duck" with rice and vegetables and fruit

The specialists in the production of mock meat are Asians and it was in Asian restaurant that I had the opportunity to eat dishes, which are deliberately reminiscent of meat flavors. Seeing the menu, I happened to ask in disbelief whether it was a vegetarian restaurant :) Meals with fake meat in the main role, taste and aroma are due to spices, sauces and vegetables. The pieces of "duck" or "chicken" are marinated before frying.

What is my opinion about using mock meat in a vegetarian kitchen? I think that we could easily go without it :) Perhaps such dishes will be helpful for people who are at the beginning of a meatless diet and are still addicted to the taste of meat. It's nice to eat such a meal in a good vegetarian restaurant, for example when traveling and looking for an alternative to the ubiquitous meat cuisine.

Vegan "beef" with broccoli, capsium, carrot, celery, zucchini, onion and spring onion, stir fried with house made spicy barbecuce sauce

It is worth remembering, however, that the gluten used to produce meat substitutes is a frequent allergen, and if consumed in excess, it can cause intolerance. You can also add flavor and consistency enhancers, preservatives or dyes to "cooked" cans or frozen dishes.

Bless you!

the food is very delicious my friend. and hopefully you are always in good health. and please help in my blog once my good friend yes @monika-homa

The more it looks like the "real" thing, the more scary for me - like this tofu duck I've seen in an asian food store: it even had the goosebumps on the "skin". 😮 That's not for me. Sometimes I like the texture of fake "meat", like these soy flakes I sometimes use for sauce Bolognese, Chili Sine Carne or arabic dishes. Sometimes it's the form, texture and the taste (from the typical spices) like in a classic german Bratwurst. I recently uncovered a new to me fake meat company and their products and they have a Bratwurst from pea or soy protein and besides the fact it is a bit dryer, it tastes so real (at least for me, the one who doesn't had a Bratwurst for twenty years now). We made a barbecue for two and the sausages were great. The next day I cooked myself some Sauerkraut, potatoes and another pair of the like meat Bratwurst and it was divine!
But no, you are right! Nobody really needs these things. They are just fr fun every now and then. Thank you for this interesting article!

Thank you for a valuable comment!
I also treat this artificial meat as a curiosity, not the basis of a vegetarian diet.

I love mock meet, but I eat it only occasionally. There is a Gardein company that we have here in Canada and U.S and they even have gluten free products :)

These products look appetizing, In Europe we don't too much meat substitutes with good ingredients. That's why I choose legumes, grains, nuts and seeds every day ;)

They are truly delicious, but I also prefer legumes, nuts and sometimes tempeh and tofu.

Wow
Thank for sharing Moni
Your meals are amazing

Thank you very much @samiwhyte

Check out Quorn. It gets much closer to (processed) meat than any soy product will ever get.
But I don't get why one should need a replacement for meat actually. This is fake veganism to me. It just pushes the industrialisation of food production. There are vegetarians in Asia for so many thousand years, having perfect dishes which need no addition. And for the time before 2nd World War, animals for meat and milk production have not been around in Europe at the quantities they are now. There are meat-free dishes in European cuisine. But those are mostly forgotten. Eating no meat has been a challenge for the poor. Now the situation has turned. The poor eat (low quality) meat. The richer eat vegan and buy their food from anywhere but local shops. The social gap couldn't be wider actually.

Thank you for an interesting comment.
I agree with your opinion. We should eat simple, cheap food, such as vegetables, fruits, legumes, cereals, nuts. But today, the world is about consumerism and sales, at the expense of human health, animal life and our planet.

I was in a Japanese vegan restaurant not so long ago and got to try a few of these. Normally I am not a huge fan of fake meats, but loved the soba noodle soup with veggies and vegan prawns.
