SundayCook #27 - Meat 'à jardineira'

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Hello fellow Steemians!!

Some of you may have noticed my Sunday Cooks are getting more sporadic lately. Yes, it's Summer, the heat it's unbearable most of the days and I don't turn the oven on and avoid the stove too.

Fortunately, this week temperatures were lower and my appetite changed too. I needed something more substantial ;) It was time to light the stove (at least this Sunday!)

This Sunday I cooked

Meat 'à jardineira'

This is a typical Portuguese recipe, very tasty and easy to prepare.

Perfect for a family lunch!!

Ingredients

  • 1000 grams / (2,2 pounds) beef cut into cubes
  • olive oil (to taste)
  • 2 medium onions
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 5 medium ripe tomatoes
  • 3 medium potatoes
  • 2 carrots
  • 150g peas (to taste)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • one small chili pepper
  • sweet red pepper sauce (to taste)
  • black pepper and salt (to taste)
  • red wine

Directions

The meat was cooked using this recipe: Sunday Cook #13 Stewed meat with spaghetti - In memorie of my grandfather, shared a few weeks ago:

  1. Unpeel and chop the onion and garlic cloves. Put them in a saupan with olive oil and the bay leaf. Let it fry for about 5 minutes. Add the peeled tomatoes cut in small pieces, let it boil and cover with the pan lid to cook for 10 minutes. Add the meat cubes.

  2. Season with little salt, black and chili pepper, red wine. Stir, cover the pan, bring to low heat and cook about 1h30 minutes. Stir once in a while.

  3. Take the amount of meat you will need for one meal. Cover it with water and season with salt and black pepper.

(Here you can add spaghetti (YUM) or add potatoes and carrots and prepare an amazing "Meet 'à jardineira'".

  4. Unpeel, wash and cut the potatoes and carroes into cubes

  5. Add the potatoes, carrots to the saucepan. Stir with a spoon and boil over medium-high heat. When boiling, reduce to low heat and cook about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Add the peas, stir and let cook for about 10 minutes.

It's ready to serve!!

What is Sunday Cook?!

These Sunday Cook project began with a strong will to contribute to Steemit with my personal view of Portuguese cuisine. I really believe we have plenty of good food. I'm not a professional or nothing similar, but I can assure that I'll do my best!

On Sundays, I like to prepare more elaborate and delicious food. It requires time and patient. Usually, I cook some traditional Portuguese food, or at least with Portuguese inspiration :) I try to do it in a healthier way, using the minimum fat as possible, and normally I pick some recipe and transform it. During the week I don't like to spend much time cooking (no time at all), that's why I get totally motivated to cook on Sundays!!

Ahah, thanks! Cool idea of using flags and the Steemit logo! :)

Looks delicious! Reminds of what I sometimes do and call a fricassée.

Thanks!! I only know chicken fricassée and don't appreciate that much because of the mess with tiny bones. But with beef or pork meat...it would be fine!

I would love to have this right now. Lol. Thanks for sharing!

This looks so delicious! :))))

And it was my dear. I know the day you came to Portugal and try our food, you won't want to get back ;)

Yum! I like to add green beans and/or strips of red pepper too.
And I actually tried this stew (I just call it stew) with different meats: beer, pork or chicken. All yummy!

Agree, I can imagine how yummy those variants are too! It's our portuguese cook style :)

I guess I am cooking Portu-Polish style and it is very alike. Though we do use different spices and herbs.

Ups, I forgot your other polish half ;) I have no clue how Polish food tastes like, but my cookings usually have onion and or garlic, olive oil and bay leaf! That's how it usually begin ;)

That's about it for us too :) We don't use as much cilantro as you do and I have tried it for the first time here and I love it. And probably more rapeseed oil than olive oil since we do not grow olives.

Yes, we use cilantro a lot, but in Alentejo region is where it's very popular! I've learned to love it too!

Parece delicioso!
