Eats Good || The Soybean Factory

We have been walking past this dessert shop ever so often the last couple of months. We’d look at it from afar, sometimes flip through the menu set outside and even peeked in once. Today, we decided it was time to give it a try.

The Soybean Factory has a menu with all things soy based. We were there for Tau Fu Fa/Tofu, their signature dish. You can choose between hot and cold, with toppings of your choice accompanied with either Brown Sugar, White Sugar or Ginger Red Date Sugar.

What surprised me was their savoury variety. Toppings of fried onions, scallions, You Char Kway (which is like salty Chinese Churros). I wasn’t feeling adventurous and also we had just eaten lunch so will save this for another day for I am curious to know what it’d taste like.

There were four of us, and we decided to share as we’d been told that it was very filling.

So the boys chose cendol, longan and black pearls as their topping.

My daughter and I chose Taro, Sweet Potato, Matcha and Gingko. The first three tasted pretty much the same. Gingko is my favourite, so no complains there.

They were out of the cold ones but we preferred the hot ones anyways. We chose Brown Sugar as the sweetener and the white liquid is Soy Bean Milk. They are served separately so you can control the sweetness.

This cost us RM25.50 and it wasn’t as big a portion as I had anticipated. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it and so did my daughter. The boys however weren’t impressed and I ended up finishing theirs.

It is a little bit pricier if you choose your own combination as opposed to the recommendations. The Tau Fu Fa base is between RM6 to RM6.50 and the each topping is RM2. Otherwise, you can get one with three toppings of their choice for around RM10.

FYI, I can get Tau Fu Fa with the same choices of sweeteners from the market which is about 50% more for RM1.50 and if we brought our own container would be 20cents cheaper. Having said that, I suppose it is not a fair comparison.

It had a nice ambience and I did want to take more pictures but they had a sign that said no cameras and it was also pretty packed.

Hey, let me know if you have ever tried the savoury kind :). And if not, would you?

Cheers,
