Today's Sustainable Feast in the Garden of Eden

in #food6 years ago (edited)

It is another marvelous day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!

We made a delicious feast for our volunteers today, and because we have below freezing weather we prepared the food indoors on our wood burning stove rather than on the rocket stoves of our sustainable outdoor kitchen! We stayed nice and toasty, had a fantastic meal, AND heated water for showers for super sustainable efficiency. As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you.

Today we made a huge feast with sausages with mushrooms and onions, creamy black eyed peas with kale, a bright garden salad, cheesy broccoli, and beet "noodles"!

It was a hearty, wholesome spread with lots of food for everyone! Even though it's cold outside, there is still plenty of outdoor work to be done around our ecovillage. It's great to share a hot meal together at the end of a full day of productive play!

We started with our daily salad of mixed greens with sliced mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, and tomatoes, and today we crumbled lots of blue cheese on top for a pungent pop of creaminess!

We made a pan of Polish style sausages for our carnivores, sautéeing them with lots of onions and sliced mushrooms for extra flavor.

We made a huge, creamy pot of black eyed peas for everyone, and stirred in lots of greens towards the end of their cooking time for vibrant color, extra nutrition, and even more yumminess!

Our hearty main dishes looked so pretty cooking alongside each other on our wood burning stove! We have a pile of bricks stacked up along the back of the stove for extra heat. The bricks get super hot, and we wrap them in towels or blankets and carry them off to cuddle all night to stay sustainably warm throughout the below freezing evening!

There's a close up of the black eyed peas - don't they look great?! We sprinkled parmesan cheese on top and let it melt into the creamy white sauce! With the weather so cold, we're happy to have the extra calories to keep our bodies healthy; we spend extra energy just maintaining the proper temperature. Plus, if we do happen to add a little weight on in the wintertime, it's just more insulation and that's great because we don't have central heating!

Next we had a side of cheesy broccoli. We lightly steamed this yummy veggie and melted on handfuls of cheddar cheese! Extra delicious calories are most welcome around here!!

To round out our meal, we prepared a bowl of spiralized beet "noodles" topped with more parmesan cheese! These are rich and earthy, but they don't have any of the wheat of traditional pasta. They are a fun way to have a noodle fix, plus get lots of phytonutrients and vitamins!

What a beautiful table setting with all kinds of substantial, healthy dishes!

We take great care with our presentations and delight in fancy extras like these sustainable flower and fruit and veggie centerpieces.

It was a glorious meal, and everyone gave plenty of thanks today's most epic feast!!
