Do we really EAT HEALTHY?

Before I start, I would like to say that this article is a product of changing my mindset and attitude, which is a result of constant education, raising awareness and gathering the information from a lot of sources and letting it grow inside myself.

Of course, I will use healthy in my article titles about recipes and food, especially when it comes to ranking by google and of course I will use it because I’m too small to go against google and I want more people to hear about Different through organic search, but I believe that healthy food does not exist.

The article reflects the way I look at things, based on experiences and situations that I sparked my mind.

What is healthy?

Through the years, I have slowly built my point of view on the concept of health. In the beginning, it was healthy food for me. This is healthy, this is unhealthy.

Bread is unhealthy, chicken is healthy.

And so I built my project and slowly came to the conclusion that healthy can not possibly be food. Health is something more like lifestyle, everyday life, culture. Let’s compare that with hip-hop culture, since I’m a rap musician, so I think I can pull a good parallel here.

Healthy is a way of life.

There is no hip hop music, hip hop culture. Rap is the music that marks this culture. Graphics are the visual expression of that culture. Wide trousers and hats are the clothes signs of this culture and so on and so forth.

Healthy is a whole consisted of three elements.

Let’s get back to the theme now. Healthy is a complete whole. It is a whole for me that includes proper nutrition, physical activity and a positive way of thinking. I believe that these three elements are an integral part of a healthy lifestyle.

Why there is no healthy food?

First, it is necessary to change the angle of view of the concept of food or of nutrition in general.

We need to enter a certain amount of calories and proteins troughout the day, with carbohydrates and fat to reach the calorie limit in order to influence their body mass. Pure math.

It is important to meet daily calorie intake.

We can make daily calorie intake from foods such as burgers, chips, cookies, potatoes and some meat. We can also satisfy daily intake from foods such as white and red meat, vegetables, dairy products, nuts, berry fruit.

As long as we are within calorie limit and meet our goal, no matter is it about reducing or increasing body mass, but we should take a deeper look at the whole picture.

The first group of foods are nutritionally poor foods. This means they do not contain too much of the vitamins and minerals we need, while the other food group is nutritiously rich because it contains a handful of vitamins and minerals that most depend on the functioning of our organism.

If we eat nutritionally poor food in the long run, various health problems will arise in the functioning of our organism. Immune system disorders, organ function problems, chronic inflammation – all of this is a result of nutritionally poor diet for a longer period of time with a lack of physical activity.

Nutritionally rich foods

The real term is nutritionally rich food. Because as we learned above, we can lose weight with nutritionally poor food without any problems. Pure math, eat less than you spend troughout the day and you lose weight.

But, with nutrionally poor food intake on the long run, you can get problems inside your body.

That’s why we should mostly eat nutritionally rich foods, there is no healthy and unhealthy, no cheat meal. There is a calorie limit, if you consume food over this limit, you have energy suficit and it goes to fat. Things are really simple.

The excess energy is stored in the fat tissue.

If your daily limit is 1,500 calories and you eat 250 grams of cottage cheese with a fist of walnuts additionally over that limit, it’s a suficit and will not help you to lose weight if that is the goal.

What have we learned today?

  • There is no healthy or unhealthy food
  • Health is a whole that consists of several elements, and food is just one of them
  • It is important to consume sufficient amount of calories and proteins with the desired carbohydrate and fat ratio
  • There are nutritionally rich and nutritionally poor food
  • Constant consumation of nutritionally poor food leads to health problems
