Venezuelan empanadas

Hi steemians:

Today I would like to share a new recipe of a universal dish: The empanada. The empanada is a thin dough of bread, broken dough or puff pastry stuffed with a salty or sweet preparation and baked or fried. Since I was little I have eaten them in my country Venezuela, and I wanted to share them with the Venezuelan touch.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup (215 grams) of precooked cornmeal.
  • Tablespoons all-purpose wheat flour or cornstarch.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  • 1 1/2 cups of cold water.
  • Filling, to taste.

Preparation method

1. In a bowl place the pre-cooked cornmeal, wheat flour or cornstarch and salt.

2. Add the water.

3. Mix until you get a soft and malleable dough. Let the dough rest for about 10 minutes.

4. Take a portion of the dough and make a ball, place it on the plastic, moistened previously.

5. Spread it along and fill.

6. Fold in the shape of a half moon, with the help of plastic.

7. Use a container to shape it.

8. A circular container makes this step much easier.

9. Fry in plenty of hot oil or bake at 400 ° F, for approximately 25 minutes.
