For today's weed news we go to the great state of Florida.

Since 2016, when the state first approved their medical marijuana legislation, there's been a lot of legal back and forth.

Now, the city of Fort Lauderdale has officially decided to limit how many dispensaries the city will allow. Some are saying that it doesn't have the power to do so.

Apparently, four dispensaries have applied for permits to open within the Fort Lauderdale city limits, and the city says that's three too many.

The city is citing a law it has which mandates that dispensaries be at least 1,500 feet away from parks and schools, as the reason for wanting to reject three of the applications.

That approach seems to be going against the state's medical marijuana law that clearly states dispensaries must be treated the same exact way as any other type of pharmacie in the state.

Sun Sentinel's Brittany Wallman recently told WLRN that "this is just making it more difficult, even though it's what the voters wanted".

Representatives from the city released a statement saying that any dispensary has the right to challenge the city law in court if they so wish. Until they do formally challenge this, there is nothing the state can do about the discrepancy.

"It's kind of an interesting approach to take, because you're publicly disclosing that you think this ordinance would not hold legal muster, but you're going to enforce it and put the applicants through the cost and the time of having to challenge it in court" added Wallman.

Hopefully they can get this figured out sooner than later so that people in Florida who are suffering can get access to the meds they need with ease. This most recent legal discrepancy comes in the midst of Florida's fight to allow smokable cannabis as part of their MMJ program as well.

It looks like Florida has become a battleground of sorts between the will of the people and bureaucratic red tape.

Personally, I believe the truth will prevail and the people of Florida will eventually have proper access to the medicine they need.

Those laws are exploited all the time here. They include churches too and cover bars and other "adult businesses" so whenever some church has a problem with a strip club or dive bar existing, they rent a space near by and keep it from being able to renew its permits.
