Hanging out with my daughter and the Negril Wave Runners swim team again, a must for me on Saturdays.

Love being with the kids, usually I’m the only father that stays the whole time so every now and then I have to speak with them about good sportsmanship, supporting fellow team members and what it means to win together in relays.

In order to avoid ...

I have a Red Cross thingy from HS saying I can save a life, however, I was never a great swimmer and rather float than thread water 😅. I made JV basketball at Brooklyn Tech HS, but my career ended when— Jah know star, I stopped growing at about 5’9 😅🤣😂

Also, won the Montefiore Bronx Community Center Basketball tournament back in like ‘98. Took home the ship as starting point-guard. Memories 😌🏆

Who would of thought, it would be a gazzillion times more fulfilling— the feeling of watching your kids succeed in sports by far beats any award or championship I won in the past.

Huge thanks to Ms Allison and her efforts with the Negril Wave Runners swim club.

“Swim lessons save lives.”

Papa life ! Big up Bredda. Sadly not many Jamaicans take up swimming or when I was growing up could afford swimming lessons. My uncle carried me to the beach and push me off - I swear di man was trying to kill mi. That was no encouragement to swim lol 😂

🤣 I had the same experience, they push you off or carry you out and throw you where you can’t touch bottom. Like a bird, pushing the babies out the nest lol. Went to school in the States and you couldn’t get your diploma without passing swimming class at Brooklyn Tech so I got lucky there I guess.

With Shari it was necessary. When she was 4 she broke her hand/elbow at school, and we all know Jamaica hospitals are not the best— they need a lot of help. That was a tough time for me, knowing the pain she was going through.

When the cast came off, everything was wrong.

We ended up at bone specialists in Kingston, who said she would need surgery to break it back again and fix or years of therapy so the bones naturally find their place. Breaking it back wasn’t an option, not after what they did before.

The doctors suggested swimming lessons for therapy. It was pretty tough at first but I managed to convince her:

“When you learn to swim, it will be fixed”

And it worked.

The cost for each class is $800 JMD (about $6) per week or $3,000 JMD for the month.

I look at it as the cost of 1 drink at a bar— totally worth it. 😅

Bless up bredda

That is very cool and yes I know exactly what you mean about the feeling we get watching our children do well - it’s priceless!

Sure is, I look forward to her practices now more so than sports on TV... is crazy 😜

Friends: “Big football match today bredda”

Me: “Sorry... swim practice”

🤣😂🤣😅

That’s so awesome- she is lucky to have such a cool dad

I like your post. Seems when you have a child you can almost relive your life through their childhood. Give them everything you didn’t have. Especially if you are parent who is active in their life. I envy the experiences that you have yet to enjoy. Smile.
Bless Up.

Thanks 🙏🏽 I know, a huge part of the reason why I stayed home was her. Although I could have brought her up, didn’t want to take her mom as well (don’t judge me 😅)... I realized she can enjoy the childhood here that I missed, and as a web dev/designer I can work just about anywhere there’s internet.

Grew up with both parents, so I couldn’t imagine pulling her that far away. Needs the best of both worlds tho, she’s gonna have to see some snow soon 🙂

Blessings bredda
