GOOD ENOUGH ;-) Finish the story contest

First, there was the word.

That was not enough, obviously.
This word got defined.
By some sort of intelligence.

Then there became more words
That was not enough, still.

Those words again were defined
That was not good enough.

Eventually every word birthed more words of itself
That still was not good enough

Then there were texts, carved in stone
That was not good enough

Then there were dictionaries (fast forwarded a little)
That was not good enough

Then there were textbooks (could be also the other way around with the dictionaries, who knows anyway)
That was not good enough

Then there were textbooks pointing to other textbooks
That was not good enough

Then there were libraries pointing to other libraries (indeed?)
That was not good enough

Then somewhere around here it became impossible to read all the stuff (could also had happened a lot earlier)
And that was not good. Or ... did not feel good. Which is a difference.

Then there were - nevertheless nobody could read all the stuff - more texts
That was not good enough

Then there were Zeros and Ones
That was not good enough

Then texts became 0s an 1s
That was not good enough

Then there were texts, languages, disciplines connected to other texts, languages, disciplines from all who used 0s an 1s, not the others (!)
That was not good enough as still nobody on his own could link and understand that stuff

Then there were translators from languages to other languages (sorry, no linearity here but what can one do?)
That was not good enough

Then there was the idea that all written text from all users of 0s an 1s (seen as the whole world, though not true) could be artificially connected
That seemed ...

You finish the story.

Or twist it. Or abuse it. Do as it pleases you. Don't take it too seriously.

P.S. Quiz-Questions: What happened to the spoken word? What about oral tradition? Where does the brain store what has been told to it? Does the oral word survive through the ages? What may be it's vehicle?
Extra Bonus to win!

P.P.S. Challenge: You tell what you would like to have in return!

;-)

Please forgive me to abuse the #finishthestory tag. I won't do it again, I promise :)

Sort:

Interesting to read and a bit exhausting in that desire of mine to read it ALL! Not just all of the posts here on steemit, but the books on my home shelves and at the library and.... :)
Also, very interesting your mention of 0's and 1's. Are you referencing computer code? My son is attending university for coding and showed me all of the configurations of 0's and 1's and the reduction of all Internet/computer knowledge based one these arrangements of adding or subtracting 0's and 1's--binary and bit strings. Oh, so much to fathom!
Maybe, if I finish the story the great world computer explodes and everyone once again goes into the woods and tries to understand the magic of the number three in all of nature, that these new again to the natural world must learn to read the stars.
The oral word survives, but does evolve and change depending on the new speakers own personality/experience/spiritual drive as compared to the original story teller. Just as the books are revised and rewritten so are the stories, probably slowed down in orders where there are promises of death and damnation as are practiced in some masonic fraternal orders, but I trust do change over time even if at a slower rate.
I've got to get off of here and go and read!
Hugs!

Yes, I do refer to computer code with the 0s and 1s.
I like your finishing the story. Great badda boom bang and up for the woods! lol
... well, we play with our fantasies.

Yes, I see it how the words survive in the way you describe it.

Thank you for taking part in my "contest". HeHe. How much would you like to win in return for your ending? :-)

I've already won in your friendship and response!

Indeed. That cannot be denied. Have a wonderful day, my friend.

Not taking this too seriously--but perhaps first there was a gesture, a picture, a symbol, a sign. Perhaps language came later and we are heading back toward symbols, the point at which we started.

how do you know that word is not sound? And that what was there, was first sound?
I am just teasing you. I like how we differently interpret words. It shows what I want to have as an effect. That the richness behind what we express cannot be seen and expressed. But it's always there.

Yes, I think that sometimes, too. That convenience makes us a little bit more like cave men again. Laughter! I am hopefully wrong! ... No, I know I am.

I upvoted your post.

Keep steeming for a better tomorrow.
