Capsule Film Review: Good People (2013)

2013 thriller Good People is using an old, common but also very effective premise of ordinary people in extraordinary yet believable situation. James Franco and Kate Hudson play Tom and Anna Wright, American couple in London who, despite being hard-working, barely makes ends meet. Situation becomes even more desperate when their lodger suddenly dies of heroin overdose thus depriving them of source of income; yet, the dead man was in possession of bag with large amounts of money. Wrights decide to take the money but, in doing so, they become involved in rivalry between two vicious drug lords (played by Sam Spruell and Omar Sy). Directed by Danish filmmaker Henrik Ruben Genz in a simple but effective way, Good People is hardly original, but it delevers everything a proper thriller should have, including somewhat predictable yet interesting final showdown.
