Capsule Film Review: Artic Blue (1993)

1993 action film Arctic Blue is set in Alaska where the protagonist, played by Dylan Walsh, has to bring trapper (played by Rutger Hauer), who had been arrested for murder, to authorities . The plot shows how their journey becomes increasingly difficult and dangerous, partly because of trapper’s friends determined to free him at any cost. Script, partly inspired by classic westerns like 3:10 to Yuma or High Noon, is burdened with poor characterisation, while the acting is anaemic, especially in the case of Rya Kihlstedt who plays protagonist’s girlfiend. The only exception is Hauer whose great talent in rather thankless role allows this film to be somewhat watchable.
