NATURE MEETS SCIENCE

What do you think will happen when nature meets science?? It will probably be something explosive although, it is a general knowledge that science is indeed a part of nature. Separately, they both have their own awesome definitions but it is still a known fact that "greater things are accomplished while working together".

Tatiana Onesin was a 13-year-old girl who lived with her aunt in a small community where everyone knew each other. She had always loved everything about nature, being a smart kid, Tatiana was already planning on leaving their small community for the city, she wanted to continue her study of nature and there was only one school in the community and they lacked the necessary resources needed for practical, the students of the school appealed several times to the government but nothing was done about their situation, Tatiana was getting fed up already, she had heard many things about the city; it's large buildings, industries, schools, conservatories, museums etc.

She wanted to be well informed before going there so as not to seem ignorant but the library in her community was practically empty, all she knew were the things she heard from her elders who also heard from their elders, her aunt was not in support of her decision to study nature, she said it was a waste of time studying something that wasn't going to yield a positive result in the future, she wanted Tatiana to go to the city to read law or medicine so when she(Tatiana) gets a degree, she will be able to improve their community with the money she makes. It was an everyday battle between Tatiana and her aunt.

The year Tatiana finished secondary school, construction workers bombarded their community with tractors, backhoe loaders, excavators, trailers, haul trucks, etc, with the intention of demolishing houses and the only school in the community. The purpose of this was to build a large factory in the community, the naive community people including Tatiana were excited at first because they thought the government had finally heard their pleas and had decided to listen to them, when they figured out that they thought wrong, they were all devastated and sad because they didn't have anywhere else to stay.

Tatiana was so angry and in that rage, she gathered a few people and they formed a group, a group they called "THE RESISTANCE", they all went to the construction site to fight the workers but unfortunately, four of the community people were killed as a result of the fight and this scared Tatiana because she didn't think they would go as far as killing people in the community, after this escapade, killing became rampant in the community.

As a result of this, Tatiana's aunt quickly shipped her illegally to the city.Tatiana didn't like this idea but she had no choice.When she got to the city, she had no one to stay with, the only thing she brought with her were her old clothes, her high school final year result and a few books she used in high school. Every night for two months she slept in the streets eating only scraps of food she found on the floor, she regretted coming to the city. It was then she realized that she had the wrong perception of the city and there are two sides to every story, she also noticed that everywhere she walked to, there were people like her, who are homeless, sad, dejected.

So this is the city? So high and mighty which everyone praises, a place where there are more homeless people than in the village, at least there, we all had homes! "Tatiana pondered", it was while she was pondering on this that she got hit by a car.

When she woke up, she only saw white, she thought she was dead until she heard the doctor's voice, she didn't remember what happened until the man standing beside the doctor explained everything to her after which he asked her why she wasn't paying attention to the moving cars and buses while crossing the road. Tatiana told him everything from when the contractors came to her community till when his car hit her, the man took pity on her and brought her to his home, he introduced her to his wife and child, he had a daughter called Brittany. Brittany was also a smart girl, she loved natural science and her friends calls her 'the nerd'. When Brittany and her mother heard Tatiana's story, they were touched, they all decided to let her live with them for a while.

During Tatiana's stay in the Stephen's home, she talked a lot about nature and because of this, she and Brittany got very close.They exchanged ideas and learnt new things as Mr. Stephen arranged for them to take tours in other countries and visit innovative enterprises. It was then Tatiana figured that there was so much to nature she didn't know, before coming to the city, she had the perception that nature and science could be inter related but still wouldn't go well together but after learning new things from Brittany and reading new books even helping Brittany with some practical projects, she realized that her community had made her narrow-minded mostly due to the lack of resources and negligence of the government.

Mr Stephen and his wife noticed how smart Tatiana was and her ability to easily understand things didn't go unnoticed so they talked to her about their plan to send her to a university and she was excited about the idea. Her eagerness made them even more happy to help her.

Few months after Tatiana had written the necessary exams, the results came out and she passed excellently well, she was delighted and overjoyed when she learnt that she had been given admission into the same university as Brittany to study natural science. Her joy knew no bounds.

Necessary arrangements were made by Mr and Mrs Stephen for her to travel as the school was far from where they lived. On the day she was to travel, she thanked Mr and Mrs Stephen and promised not to disappoint them. When she got to the destination, Brittany came to pick her up as they were going to be staying together. Their stay in the university was fun, creative, innovative, stressful and exciting. When they were to present their final year projects, they were grouped into two and as usual, Brittany and Tatiana were paired. They wanted to invent something different and unique. In other words, they needed a brainstorming idea and they got it. They invented a machine that emphasized the coming together of nature and science to bring something positive to the world, something that could help rural communities like Tatiana's and even the beggars on the street.

Their presentation was the best in the entire school and they were the best graduating students for that session. All in all, Tatiana representing nature and Brittany representing science and both of them coming together to form natural science.
