"It's a privilege for me to be standing in front of you all because you deliver an amazing ingredient to America's freedom. You all are making the products that let us deliver the fight."

Secretary of the Navy Richard Spencer stepped down from the podium after addressing the employees of Lockheed Martin, the company responsible for manufacturing the MH-60R, the most advanced anti-submarine/anti-surface helicopter in the world. The event was taking place in Bethesda, Maryland.

Richard Spencer never thought that he would one day become the administrative head of the Navy, as he served for just 5 years. Luckily, his experience on Wall Street gave him a head start thanks to the new president.

Spencer had always known that military power comes from money and technology, not just valor in the field. During his time as a Marine Aviator in 1976, he became obsessed with the weapon experiments that took place during WWII, as both Axis and Allies tried just about anything to have the upper hand on the field of battle.

One of those events was the Philadelphia Experiment, which was supposed to have been carried out by the Navy back in 1943. In an effort to render a ship invisible, the experiment resulted in the teleportation of the USS Eldridge, fusing the crew to the vessel at a subatomic level and causing a time leap, according to some theorists.

“Sir, we have an update.” Spencer had a moment of clarity as the words came out the mouth of his chief of staff. After resuming his gait, he responded.

“Tell me.”

“It worked. We found one.” The Secretary of the Navy struggled to find words. He let the chief of staff continue as they walked away from the stage.

“Agent U-06 devised a subject here, in Maryland. At the Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis. He was seen... mourning.”

Spencer had assembled a team to find survivors of the Philadelphia Experiment. He determined that an invisible person would not let himself be captured unless the captor was invisible too.

The subject was visiting the grave of Fleet Admiral Ernest King, Navy Commander in Chief during WWII, and most likely, the man who oversaw the Philadelphia Experiment, the chief of staff explained. Agent U-06 seized the subject. Spencer was pleased until the chief of staff continued.

“Sir, the subject was born in 1962. It is the son of one of the survivors, Robert Leahy. King had taken care of Leahy's family as he could not maintain a job due to his... peculiar condition. Leahy died after his son was born and it seems that, just like his father, his son would be irremediably invisible for life.”

Richard Spencer burst into tears.

Congrats!
I simply love this story. Great example of pulling an entire narrative into the backstory so you could focus your words on the current events. Wonderful.
