It was the loud noise and jubilation from the student that sent Adam jumping up from his sleep. He looked through the window and saw hundreds of newbies. He saw the majestic cars that immediately made the car he sat in with his mother looked like a garbage. Mr William Ofori, the choir master had offered to help Adams to school after mass.

"Mum, we are here?" Adam whispered before burying his head.
Sarah noticed his reluctance to get down.
"You are the best of your kind" Sarah complimented forcing a smile on Adams face. Her dream was to see her son believe in himself.

Adams glanced carefully over the newbies. Some were dressed like movie stars. Most of the guys conversed in pidgin language while the ladies spoke English.
Most of the student had big boxes with them which contrasted with the polythene bag Adams had with him.
"Oh, Oh God" Adams fingered his polythene bag severally. He wondered what happened to the courage he had been building all the while.

That was when he noticed the beds. Some students had their beds by their side while other still had theirs in the cars.
"We don't have a bed" Adams panicked.
Sarah heard his voice shook.
"We totally forgot, even if we didn't, we wouldn't have had the money to get it" Sarah said, avoiding her son's eye. She couldn't bare to look at the sadness and disappointment in his eyes.

Sarah excused herself, saying she needed to find out what was going on.
Few minutes she returned and explained that Adams would have to join the queue in order to be allocated a bedspace in the hostel.

"Hurry, hurry, the queue would get longer" Sarah fidgeted and threw a bunch of plantain into Adams bag.
Finally, all was set and Adams watched his mother zoomed off with William Ofori before going to join the queue.
As he approached the queue, he was aware of the eyes on him. His ears even picked some of their words about him.

"He heard a girl describe him as "cool". A smile played on his lips despite the fear that engulfed him.
Just as Adams joined the queue, other students queued behind him.
"Where is your box?" Adams heard a guy asked him but he pretended not to hear and fixed his eyes on the skull of the boy just before him

Just then, a male student arrived, he glanced quickly as if looking for the perfect place to force himself into.
His dangerous eyes met with Adams. He pulled his eyes away after few seconds when Adams didn't look away.
Finally, he went straight to the boy in front of Adam. The boy looked very small and weak.
Despite the boy's small stature, he still protested and ordered the big guy to go to the back and position himself after the last person on the line.

"I was here before. I went to get card" The big guy said, his big dark lips forming an angry arch.
"That's a lie" The little boy protested but before he could go on with his words, the big guy tapped him roughly on his chest.
"Woooh!" The onlookers screamed as the little guy fell weakly to the floor.
"That was hostile!"

"Did you just call me hostile?" The big guy said, obviously close to a rage.
The noise from the onlookers intensified.
An hall warden immediately intervened.
It was Abraham who explained the entire situation logically.

The tall guy was ordered to the back but before he left, he pointed his fingers towards Adams eyes.
For once, Adams felt like who could fight threats.
"Thank you" The small boy said to Alex.
Adams saw that he was even more frightened than he was.

"I am Adams"
"I am Alex" The boy replied, flashing a sincere smile that warmed Adam's troubled heart.
As the student trooped in and trooped out, it reminded Adams that life was just a Market place. He remembered his dead father again.

He hoped that things would get better.
Finally, it was Adams's turn to be allocated. He filled a paper and he was given K12.
On getting to the room, he found Alex whimpering in a corner.
Adams saw Alex eyes brightened when he entered the room and before he could say hello, Alex had thrown himself into Adam's had that quickly opened to welcome him.

"The other boys here are scary, they just left the room. I am happy to have you here" Alex said, not making an attempt to let go his tight grip.
School is a place filled with monsters and angel, Adams thought.
Just some minutes ago, he had met the big guy monster and now an angel was clinging unto him for help.
He knew he needed to be strong.
