Fasting Journal : Day 9 of 30+
Very pleased with myself today, I am at 100 pounds lost since May 15th 2018. I've lost the weight of my most recent girlfriend. So, for the most part I have exhaled a full person over the last year.
Yes, you lose most of your weight in the CO2 in your breath. Some of the heavier atoms from protein are lost in the excrements, but most of it is carbon from your fat.
The trip to the doctor was exhaustive (4 hours) but very productive and pleasant. She was amazed at my weight, pleased with my clinical presentation (how I looked to her), but almost choked when I casually mentioned that I was on day 9 of a 30 day fast. Actually it was not that casual, I made her promise not to include it in her report.
She said, "How are you even walking!?!?!" I offered to let her take my blood sugar which was at 60 mg/dl. She said that was too low, so I asked her how my "clinical presentation" was (my phrase for the day), and she had to admit that I looked great, was active and alert, cheerful and engaged. So of course I had a chance to explain fat adaptation to her. I pre-loaded her to expect high triglycerides in the very thorough blood and urine tests she ordered, by repeating often that the fat was now in my blood as triglycerides to be burned. But I expect a call when she gets the results anyway.
I managed to get her to order me a Glucose meter, which I have been without for several years. I'm keeping a record in case it's of any use at some point. BG right now 59mg/dl. She wrote me 150 test strips so I'm taking a lot of readings. Probably every time I feel any hint of hunger, to compare to times when I don't feel any.
Can't wait to add the blood work.
Excellent! And to think I was feeling pleased with myself because I've released about 27 pounds since the start of last year, lol. Mind you, that was all I needed to release, and I wanted to take it slow. Now I want to focus on fitness and building muscle, but again, very slowly.
Great on the 27 because I have always thought it was easer to lose weight when you were really obese than when you are narrowing down on the last pounds. I mean, 100 lbs is about 1/2 of my obesity, but for you, that 27 is 100% of what you want to lose.
I've started adding bands to my workout. I do mostly stretch-like movements, but with bands (being careful not to place improper stress on my injured areas), it has been turning into a strength workout too.
Awesome for you! I finally got my 3 day fast done and wanted to go for 5 but I was developing cold-like symptoms from exposure to my sick kids and didn't want to push my white blood cell count lower/exacerbate my symptoms.
Have you experienced any novel effects on the prolonged fast beyond what you have done before? FYI I've been watching a lot of Siim Land since you turned me on to him.
Other than the women in the building wanting to touch me as they talk to me? No...
But let me think.
No, not really, nothing unusual. I did notice today that I could joke with the Pizza Delivery guy in the elevator without developing any hunger symptoms. I can sometimes feel my heart in my chest, but it feels steady and strong.
