Poverty, Oligarchy, Fascist America. Where do we go from here?

Hey there Steemians!

If you are like me then you have been a part of popular movements throughout the country and through the decades. There have been so many marches and protests in my life. Recently the trend towards shock troops in full riot gear is quite terrorizing, both for the victims of state sponsored violence and for the people who are told that they need these battle suits for their safety.

In early July of 2018, currently, there are concentration camps holding the children of refugees in the USA. It has been ongoing, although the current administration has ramped up the population by enforcing a so called “zero tolerance” policy for illegal immigrants at the border, and inside of the USA. The effect of this has been to traumatize children who are fleeing drug wars, imprison parents who are attempting to save their children’s future by escaping terror, and to pump billions into the private prison industry.

In the USA there are a lot of people who want to believe that we live in the best country in the world. People here will chant “USA USA USA!” for a draft dodger, rapist president. People will take pride in a country which has enslaved people and genocided others, all the while claiming that their wealth was righteously earned. The people in the USA have star spangled blinders on and refuse to see the real situation we exist in. We will not face our countries war crimes, our rampant nepotism in government, we will not face our combat veterans homeless in our streets, we refuse to face rape culture which is our children are steeped in through media and culture. We look away from so many issues. We look away from enslavement of third world people, so that when we drink our morning coffee we can sip our Folger’s crystals guilt free. We ignore the Foxx con workers who fling themselves to their deaths rather than make another i-phone for the first world. We also ignore our crumbling infrastructure and the environmental the chaos caused by our unrestrained consumerism. For whatever reasons we prefer to see only the good of our country despite our failings.

It is patriotic to stand in support of war profiteers? Is it patriotic to stand in support of institutional racism? Is it patriotic to stand in support of prison profiteering? I have lost my ability to swing the flag in celebration of our country. I have become outraged at our legislators failings, and the media complicity. The rights and privileges which once set our nation apart from fascists and despots are mostly gone. We have secret prisons in our country, and our laws allow for indefinite detention of suspects. We have a history using international flights to render suspects into the control of countries who are perfectly willing to torture or kill on our behalf, allowing us a moral high ground to topple regimes from. We fancy our country an ivory tower of moral and ethical values despite our worsening track record as a nation of oligarchs and wage slaves.

It is steadily becoming easier to throw stones at the empire of the USA. The poverty stricken and homeless class of people is growing at alarming rates while rental prices are through the roof. The banks are clamming up as are the employers. There is an all out effort to push the poor off of the face of the earth. The government who takes so much out of every paycheck is handing our hard earned money over to the wealthy class in tax cuts and subsidies, while we are being stripped of our supplemental nutrition assistance and housing subsidies. The government has been working full tilt on easing restrictions which protected consumers and the environment. There are massive sell offs of public lands to multinational companies who plan to take all profits abroad, while employing foreign workers on short term visas, so they can be paid less and are more easily cowed into dangerous or unhealthy working conditions.

There are enormous challenges in our present day. Regardless of which part of the world you are reading this from, I hope you understand that the media doesn’t accurately represent what is happening inside of the USA. They are not reporting on our struggle to displace fascism inside of our country. The media seems to be a branch of the military at this point. Their reporting is constantly on the side of so called national security, and their own profits. The facts and nothing but the facts are largely ignored if they could potentially harm the bottom lines of these massive companies.

If you are like me, then you have even more gripes with the government than I have been able to outline here. If you are like me then you know there are solutions to all of these problems, and that the government isn’t interested in finding solutions, or supporting the people who are actively improving the world. We need to find ways of supporting each other’s efforts without the support of government. As long as we look to the leaders to make the needed changes and give ourselves a bye through placing responsibility outside of ourselves the situation will continue to worsen.

I believe what is needed now more than ever is Radical Levels Of Personal Accountability. We need to be personally accountable for the actions we take in our daily lives, whether destructive to the world we live in or enlivening, we need to be accountable as individuals. Because the government is not going to be accountable. They won’t.
