IN THE WOODS
This isn't only about insects ...
... there is another arthropod in the post ... along with some generic pictures depicting the atmosphere in the coastal woods, a mix of pines and evergreen oaks. In this opening photograph is the Pararge aegeria butterfly that often rests on the trees.
This shield bug ...
... is the Rhaphigaster nebulosa. This insect is very well camouflaged on the bark of the tree, but here on the leaf is pretty visible .... and more photogenic than usual.
Here is a generic shot with some foliage ...
... here is a rotting tree trunk covered with ivy ...
... followed by an interesting little caterpillar ... I don't know the species.
This colorful caterpillar will become an Orgyia antiqua moth after the transformation.
This is the colorful berry of the Ruscus plant with thorny leaves.
On this photograph a minuscule spider is resting on his web.
