The basil: types, benefits and uses.

source

The basil receives the scientific name of Ocimun basilicum. Its cultivation is made from seeds. It is an annual crop. This can be cultivated directly on the ground or in pots. It prefers moist and well-drained soils. It thrives in spaces where it receives partially light. It does not bear the cold. It is a plant that can reach between 40 and 60 cm. Its leaves tend to be oval and its greenish color is brilliant. Their ears can be purple or white.

Types of basil:

Green basil: is the one that we consume normally.
Purple basil: purple. Of aniseed flavor. Used to prepare sauces.
Thai basil: this is used to make Thai dishes. Its flavor can be compared with mint and anise.
Lemon Basil: used in the preparation of seafood and fish dishes.
Basil Lima: used in the preparation of cocktails and other types of meals.

Properties and uses of basil:

This plant is rich in iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium and vitamins B, C, E, K. Its leaves can be used in preparations of stews, sauces, pasta, pesto, and cocktails, but also as natural medicine . It is possible to use it to control flu-like processes, relieve asthma, antitussive, immunological, anti-stress, improve eyesight, combat bad breath, acne, improve the functioning of the kidneys, treat headaches and upset stomach.

How to consume it?

To make a basil tea, you just have to take some basil leaves and put them in hot water. Cover. Let stand and then take. As with any treatment, consumption should not be prolonged.

As I said before, this plant is widely valued for its pleasant and aroma in the world cuisine, so before finishing, I want to leave a recipe to prepare a tasty pesto that you can use to accompany your pasta.

Basil Pesto:

Ingredients:

100g of basil (fresh leaves)
200g of Parmesan cheese
1 clove of garlic (two, if you like)
Olive oil (quantity needed)

Preparation: wash the basil leaves with care not to spoil them. In the blender, put the leaves, the oil and begin to beat. Gradually add the cheese and garlic clove. Continue beating until smooth. Remove it from the blender. Pour the mixture in a bowl and ready to accompany your pasta.

Thanks for your support. I knew that basil brought great flavor to our meals, but I was unaware of its contribution to treating health ailments.

Basil is amazing, a miracle. In India, it is considered holy and worshiped. I have four basil plants in my home and my mother worships them daily, Basil is considered a Goddess here. Thank you for this great informative post. :)

Hello, @naturalmedicine. Thanks for your support. The basil is a plant appreciated for its contribution to gastronomy and health. In the garden of the building where I live, there is a crop. Since I discovered it, I have not stopped incorporating it into my meals.
