The cause of the decline in soil fertility is the farmers themselves

If in my previous post I discussed how to fertilize the soil naturally, in my post today, I want to write the cause of decreasing soil fertility.

Factors that can cause a decrease in soil fertility are:

• Move forest use for seasonal crops

Moving land from forest to seasonal crops results in changes in the system contained in it. So that previously fertile land because of the closed nutrient cycle, when agricultural land use becomes intensive, nutrients are absorbed continuously.

• Wrong cropping pattern

The cropping pattern applied by farmers is wrong with the existence of one type of commodity that is planted every season without crop rotation, so that nutrients in the soil are taken continuously according to their needs.

• Use of chemical fertilizers

The use of chemical fertilizers applied by farmers during the green revolution makes soil damage due to residues caused by chemicals. Soils that are exposed to chemicals will continue to experience fertility degradation and dependence on chemicals.

• Factory and mining waste

The disposal of factory waste and ex-mining can reduce soil fertility due to pollution and metals which make it difficult for plants to grow.

• Use of chemical pesticides

The use of chemical pesticides to kill pests and diseases or control weeds will affect soil fertility also because of the residue caused. When the application of pesticides is definitely exposed to the soil.

That's a number of factors that can reduce soil fertility, maybe there are still several other factors too. However, this is a question for all of us farmers, aware that we ourselves have caused the destruction of our land and environment by using various chemicals. The use of chemicals not only causes our environment to become unhealthy, but ourselves will also be affected by the adverse effects of chemicals.

From now on, let us get used to taking care of our environment! In a way, gradually moving to more natural ingredients. Whether it's the use of natural fertilizers and natural pesticides in our agriculture.

On the other hand, the use of chemicals makes us very helpful, we must admit. However, continuing to use it will actually give a negative and even fatal effect for ourselves. Therefore, we must balance it.
