My First Word of Advice to Homeschooling Parents = Protection!
I was asked by my cousin to give her friend some homeschooling advice, pointers and lessons. She told me this is her first time and that she will be homeschooling her high school son. The first thing that came to mind was protection.
It’s funny how your way of thinking changes once you have learned about things or experienced them. Normally I would first suggest going over the laws and regulations according to their state. This time however, I feel urged to make sure she knows her rights and is prepared to protect her family.
Lord forbid she ever has any run ins with the CPS but it’s always better to be prepared and know what to do if that should ever be the case. Being proactive is one of the best advices I could give her.
What I Plan to Share
She is expecting my call next week so I am making some notes ahead of time of what I will share with her. I will first share pointers along the lines of being proactive in her family’s protection. I will then give some general advice. I will suggest to:
• Join HSLDA (homeschool legal defense assoc.)
• Learn her rights when visited by the CPS
• Document and keep record of EVERYTHING
• Be cautious of who she shares personal and homeschool related information with
• Learn the laws and regulations of her state
• Research recommended curriculums
• Not try to duplicate the public school classroom but focus on their own preferences and needs
Any High School Advice?
I am quite a ways away from having any high schoolers. I can share with her what I have read but I’d rather give her advice from a reliable community of homeschoolers.
If you are homeschooling or have homeschooled high school aged children is there any advice you’d like to share for me to pass on to her? I will definitely keep them tucked away for myself as well. It’s never too early to prepare for when they’re older although I don’t want to think about it. They already grow fast enough.

I am grateful here in Alaska being homeschooled is a norm for many children. We are a pro-homeschool state and I wish that for the rest of the country. It is terrible that parents have to worry about getting in trouble for teaching their children. They should be getting praised not punished.
That’s so awesome that Alaska is pro-homeschool. That’s good to know because we are making a list of those states which are in case we ever have to pick up and leave. It is very terrible the way things are. People are terrified to teach their children and it should not be that way. I agree that parents should get praised and not punished. That's the best advice you could have given. I home schooled my son years ago, but Az was friendly to that back then and I didn't have to register to do it nor use some approved curriculum. Things have changed quite a bit as they have grown much more authoritarian now as they no longer really try to hide they believe they own us.
Being vigilant now is a must for any parents even with their kids in school. Doctors visits, school employees or daycare workers who might disagree with a parent and abuse their authority in some sick, perverse desire for revenge.
I wish your friend success in the homeschooling. Many home schooled children outperform those in the school system and this is probably the one best thing a parent who is intelligent enough can do to prepare their children for success in the world.
I think Indiana is good for homeschooling. We have never had any problems here.
It doesn't make sense why any state would be against homeschooling since it is almost always better than public school.

There is no better teacher than a parent. We know our kids better than anyone and we are well capable of teaching them. There have been many studies to prove your statement true...many homeschool children do outperform those in the school system. I think this is the main reason it’s such a struggle for us to teach at home. They don’t want our children growing up independent and thinking with their own minds. They want to have control over everyone.
Good advice! I told my youngest to always say he's in school, should any nosey neighbor ask! There are no clear laws about HS around here and I'd rather not have to explain to anyone what we're doing!

Lately i came across many post on @familyprotection and also @canadian-coconut name is there everywhere ....dont have insight to these but reading at your safety points seems it is one of the trending happening across the nation....CPS too i need to dive into it

Yes when you see anything dealing with family protection you’ll see @markwhittam and @canadian-coconut’s name quite often. @familyprotection is an initiative they started to expose the truth behind CPS and their legal kidnapping of children. They are placing them in foster homes and these children are being abused and used and torn away from their families. A lot of families never reunite...if they do it might be years in between. If you have children or know anyone that does it’s worth looking into. Especially if homeschooling is involved.
Ahh kind of child exploitation.... such thing are not here as far as i know...though there are many other cases like forching child to begging and all. ... I see now @familyprotection is doing best to protect child 👍 thanks for helping me understand @crosheille

I have homeschooled my children from the start and these are some of the same tips that I give anyone that asks me about starting.

I haven't been on much. But when I was on before there were very few homeschooled kids on or active.
yes my children share my account. My youngest makes videos on her book reports. (she is blind in one eye so writing is hard for her) and she shares her gymnastics, circus and aerial arts on here as well. My oldest loves to take photographs and shares them on here. She takes photos of our family trips and adventures to different theme parks. She also loves taking photos of our cat. Sometimes they do a video together as a fun activity.
