Child Pornography - Are Public Personnel Aware of the Problem?

in #family7 years ago (edited)

The child pornography problem have only gotten worse during the past few years. Thanks to TOR network and other Darknets, perverted child pornography content is distributed and sold for bitcoin and/or monero. There is an enormous number of children kidnapped and exploited each year than one might ever imagine.

On 2002's New Year's Eve, Alicia Kozakiewicz, who was 13 years old back then, was kidnapped by Scott Tyree and incarcerated in a basement for 96 hours. The poor girl was raped, beaten and images of all what she had to go through were distributed to other child predators via the internet.

Another case took place in 2010, as 15 year old Danielle Wade, was deceived by Edward Braken, who was 38 years old back then and impersonated a 16 year old boy throughout the chatting sessions with Danielle. He managed to abduct Danielle and rape her after driving more than 400 miles to the girl's house in rural Virginia.

Both cases involved deception of teenage girls via a methodical grooming procedure that is often used by sex predators to attract impressionable teenagers, win their trust, and occasionally even love, before attempting to abduct, rape and film the victims.

If the problem is getting worse, is global awareness getting any better?

Awareness of the child pornography problem is pivotal if we are to cure this disease. Not only parents and caregivers, but also government officials and public personnel across various public institutions should have a high degree of awareness towards child pornography and how it is produced and distributed.

A recently published study that I reviewed during a recent article, measured the level of awareness of public personnel within public institutions across Turkey. This is by far the first study of this kind that examines the level of awareness of individuals working in public institutions towards the child pornography problem.

The results of the study were surprisingly disappointing, as 42% of the examined sample had no knowledge whatsoever, about P2P networks, such as TOR and Darknet, which are now used for the distribution and selling of child pornography materials. 57% of all the surveyed public personnel were not familiar with how children pornography material is published and sold online. 41% of the examined sample had no knowledge whatsoever about the international institutions that are exterminating child pornography.

Awareness is the key to beating this cancer:

The results of the study are quite alarming and reflect the level of awareness not only in Turkey, but also other countries across Europe. Raising awareness towards the problem and putting more effort to develop preventive and remedial approaches are key to protect children against perverted predators
