Facebook is Fighting a Losing Battle with its Privacy Issues

in #facebook6 years ago

Ownership and Privacy issues are the key concerns in today's shift toward web3.0, the dawn of a new wave of web-related services.

Viral scandal of Facebook appeared on the news with leaked information of call and text message data scrapped from Android phones. An article in arsTechnica posted Twitter images by Dylan McKay from New Zealand that his call-logs has been shockingly recorded by Facebook archives. While accepting "Terms & Conditions" when downloading the app, permissions have been granted for Facebook to read your contacts and message logs.

This has ballooned into the Cambridge Analytica scandal where user data of as many as 50 million users were misused. As the news unravels with regards to the abuse of user data on Facebook, many key leaders have swooped in to give their two pennyworths' of thoughts.

“The ability of anyone to know what you’ve been browsing about for years, who your contacts are, who their contacts are, things you like and dislike and every intimate detail of your life—from my own point of view it shouldn’t exist.”, said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO

Even Playboy did not like the idea of Facebook toying with his data.

“There are more than 25 million fans who engage with Playboy via our various Facebook pages, and we do not want to be complicit in exposing them to the reported practices.”

As more and more security flaws are being unearthed as we speak, the future is definitely not bright for Facebook.

Why are people just now bringing up privacy concerns with facebook? We've known about this for years. In fact, in 2012, the Obama campaign bragged about their gathering of personal information from facebook and twitter users to win the 2012 election. Read more here:

My point is, this has been an issue for a very long time. Privacy is dead. We need to be aware of our voluntary surrender of personal data and take some responsibility. This article outlines it in detail:

For years, computer analysts and journalists have alerted us to the management of public institutions about monitoring our profiles, so that this news is just yellowish publicity. If we have to use social networks with responsibility, it would be good to review the Facebook service contract since you never saw it

Steemit does not have such privacy issues fortunately. Since everything is on the blockchain, transparent and all. At least we know that large corporations are not secretly profiting with our data.

with fortune for those of us who came to the world of cryptocurrencies, we are more secure ...

I had NO IDEA that the Facebook issue included message and call logs. OM Goodness - that is way to intrusive for me. Facebook app - DELETED... Thank you for a great article and point this out! RESTEEMED

Facebook has its days numbered. All that's left is for the titanic band to start playing. LOL Greetings from Venezuela

And this is why so many marketers use fb to promote products/services.

The reach using paid adds in incredible.

Will be very interesting to see how this unfolds.
