St. John the Baptist Day... let's get wet.

Did you know who is St. John the Baptist? If you don't, it's in the bible that he was thr one who baptised Jesus. He made Jesus dive in the water as their way of baptising before. That's why in my country Philippines, we held every year in 24 of June. We celebrated the feast named St. John's Day.

The Philippines brgy. or town in every year initiated a feast. Then it was called fiesta or a celebration of the day of the Brgy but refers the day of a Saint. For example in our town, we held every year during in September 29. We celebrated that day as a feast then give respect to the Saint. So all of the province's who was named of that Saint like ours, they also celebrated a fiesta. But in St. John the Baptist day is different.

Usually the brgy or a small village who was named by Saint only celebrate this day. But if St. John's day is a little different because it's all over the Philippines who made celebration on it. It's in our tradition that we celebrate this special day. We cooked foods, gather our family's and brought drink's. Everyone must go to the sea to swim. Unlike before, most of the brgy or a small village went to the sea for celebration.

Here's another thing of this day. We thought of it as a holiday but not an official holiday. During in our elementary and highschool day's, our teachers let us to absent. If we'll go in the class or not it's fine. They knew that if it's St. John's day, all of us wanted to go to the sea and swim. There are also private employers who let their workers to be at work in half day of this day.

That's why this day is very special to us. Children's and adults were enjoying swimming to the sea. Many people swim's so it means many neighbour's will be there. It will end up of exchanging foods and inviting each one another to have a drink alcohol. If the enjoyment keep on flowing. It's a bad idea if you'll go to the sea and don't like to swim. Why? Because most of the people get a bucket of sea water or in a glass of water wanting to make you get wet.

So all in the seashore gets wet...but that's not the end of throwing water for the people here. Drank people will now go to the brgy road and searching for someone that they didn't find in the sea. If they'll know that you didn't go to the sea to swim they'll run towards to make you wet. Of course if someone didn't want to get wet will run. But even if you'll running, many of them are planning to throw you water. Just give up and stop running because you will get water for sure.

Of course other's will get mad especially when they don't want to get wet. But even though many will get mad, there's no way that it will end up fighting. Someone just give you a glass of alcohol and invites you to join them. After that it will be fine and fun will resume with everyone..
