Gender Wage Gap | Women Who Had the Courage to Fight

In 2017, Catt Sadler, E- entertainment anchor, resigned her position from the company due to an unequal pay with her co-star, Jason Kennedy.

Sadler found out she was earning way less than her male colleague (almost 50% less) who she'd started work with the same year, asked for the wage disparity to be righted, but was denied.

Sandler's is not a lone case. There are cases of women in the same position, putting in equal manpowers but earning almost half of what their male colleagues get paid.

BBC's China editor Carrie Gracie also quit her position with the firm when she found an estimated two third of the staff being paid above 150,000 were males.

In July last year, the BBC was forced to reveal the salaries of all employees earning more than £150,000 a year.

Ms Gracie said she was dismayed to discover the BBC's two male international editors earned "at least 50% more" than its two female counterparts.

US editor Jon Sopel earned £200,000-£249,999, it was revealed, while Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen earned £150,000-£199,999.

Gracie went on to write an open letter on the issue, which was published in the Telegraph, asking for pay equality for both genders.

Jane Standley, yet another staff of BBC working as an African correspondent, also tolled the line of Gracie when she also resigned her appointment siting pay equality as the cause.

More and more women around the world report experiencing wage discrimination. However, some countries have it worse than others.
