Herbert Hoover
We found traveling to the various Presidential Libraries/Museums in the Midwest to be a great excuse for road trips. One that we visited was the Herbert Hoover Presidental Library in West Branch, Iowa.
Herbert Hoover was born in 1874 in West Branch, Iowa and he grew up to be the 31st President of the United States
.
His parents were Quakers who died young, leaving Herbert an orphan at age 9. He was raised by extended family members.
He grew up to be a mining engineer, and organized American relief efforts during WWI in Belgium. He was President during the Great Depression 1929-1933.
We enjoyed touring the museum, the gardens, and walking around the neighborhood, and learning things we didn't know about the history of this country.

Lovely photographs @melinda010100.
Is that little cottage where he was born or where he lived before he became president?
That is where he was born. He was the first US President to be born West of the Mississippi River.
Such a beautiful place. He didn't grow up with parent and he become the president, he still have a good story

What are quakers?
The Religious Society of Friends, founded in England in the 17th century, included the idea that the presence of God exists in every person. I went to one Quaker 'meeting' and enjoyed the prolonged periods of silence.
Such an interesting post I have to admit I didnt know much about his early years at all
