Market Friday: SteemFest 4 Venue in Bangkok, โรงแรมที่จะจัดงานสตีมเฟสที่กรุงเทพฯ

This is my entry for #marketfriday hosted by the artistic and kind @dswigle. Today my plan to take photos of a local flea market was cancelled because the market was on holiday for a day! After some contemplation, I hopped on a bus towards the Prince Palace Hotel, the venue for Steem Fest4 in Bangkok.

The day has been dull and grey all day; the monsoon storm ‘Vipa’ has arrived in the north and we expect heavy rain for four days. It took me longer to travel there as the traffic was terrible. And the bus dud not go pass the hotel so I had another twenty minutes walk along the canal to get there.

The canal called Klong Maha Naga (the Great Water Snake) on the opposite side of the hotel.

Finally, I could spot the hotel from my side of the road. This hotel is right in the middle of an old market area where people rowed their boats laden with fruits and vegetables to be sold at this local market. Nowadays, the market called Bobae Market has gone through lots of several transformation. The whole sale fruit market has been moved further down the road with new market warehouses and car park. But you could still see some fruit stalls along the road.

The road become deserted and quiet after 5pm as all the shops along this road closed; the traffic begins to disappear. Please expect very busy and noisy activities during day time!

That’s the entrance towards the hotel, I had no time to buy my favourite pineapple! This hotel is on the Bobae Tower which has several floors of shops selling wholesale clothes for export. In the past, this market area attracted overseas buyers from Africa, Russia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. You could order any kind of t-shirts, shirts, shorts, caps, socks, etc, These companies had their own factories. I used to know quite a few factory owners during the boom time.

I found some clothes shops opening this late afternoon.

Now, I know where to buy traditional Thai dress for the tree spirits! Thai people would hang these costumes on big old Banyan trees as offerings to those tree spirits for granting their wishes.

This is an old Chinese shrine for the spirits of the land. You could find an old Chinese shrine near all Chinese market area. They believe that all land has previous owners or spiritual guardians or local spirits who were supposed to look after the land and the people who live there. People would go to the shrine when they have some business or household problems to ask the guardian spirits for their assistance; students also ask for help their entrance exams. So, it’s a good idea to pay respect to this old shrine if you need help with financial luck and rising Steem!

The lobby of the hotel is on the 11th floor of this tower. So, you would just walk up the steps and enter the lift. The area around the lifts is rather narrow. The hotel lobby looks more spacious. Voila!

This is a nicely decorated three stars hotel which has gone through some renovations. The high tower means you will have very good views but the swimming pool area is rather small. This is a popular hotel with Chinese tourists. I pretended to be one of the Chinese walking around taking photos.

เมื่อวานนี้เราต้องเปลี่ยนแผนกระทันหัน เพราะตลาดนัดที่เราจะไปถ่ายรูปนั้นปิดหนึ่งวัน เราก็ไปตัดสินใจไปเดินเล่นแถวตลาดโบ้เบ้ที่มี โรงแรมปริ้นส์พาเลซตั้งอยู่ จะได้ถ่ายรูปสถานที่จัดงานของสตีมเฟซ4 ที่กรุงเทพฯ กว่าจะเดินทางไปถึงก็บ่ายแก่ๆ เพราะต้องทำงานให้เสร็จก่อน และการจราจรติดขัดมาก เรานั่งรถเมล์ไปลงที่เชิงสะพานมหากษัตริย์ศึก แล้วเดินต่อไปทางสะพานมหานาคอีกเกือบยี่สิบนาที เราเดินเลียบคลองมหานาค เดินดูบ้านเรือนเก่าแก่ และต้นไม้ที่โตมาเป็นต้นไม้มหึมาอยู่ริมคลอง

อากาศทึมเทาเพราะมีพายุเข้า และนี่ก็ตกเย็นแล้ว สมัยก่อนนี้คลองมหานาค จะแน่นไปด้วยเรือพายที่มีผลไม้บรรทุกมาเต็มลำ เพื่อมาส่งที่ตลาดมหานาค ริมถนนก็จะมีคนวางผลไม้นานาชนิด จนแทบไม่มีทางเดิน แต่ปัจจุบันเขาไม่ให้มาวางผลไม้ขายกันแล้ว มีการสร้างตลาดใหญ่ตรงสี่แยกมหานาค มีที่จอดรถยนต์และรถบรรทุกสำหรับขึ้นลงของ ส่วนตลาดโบ้เบ้ที่เคยมีการตั้งแผงขายเสื้อผ้าทุกอย่างในราคาถูก ก็ถูกไล่ให้ไปขายบนตึกโบ้เบ้กันหมด พอตกเย็นถนนก็เลยเงียบเหงาไมีมีคนเดินดูของ และรถยนต์ก็หดหาย เหมือนเดินอยู่ในเมืองร้าง.

โรงแรมปริ้นส์พาเลซอยู่บนชั้นที่11 ฉะนั้นเราต้องกดลิฟท์ขึ้นไปที่ล็อบบี้ ข้างล่างค่อนข้างแคบ แต่พอถึงล็อบบี้ก็ค่อยดูเหมือนโรงแรมหน่อย เราคิดว่าที่นี่เป็นแค่ระดับสามดาวเท่านั่น แต่เขาได้ตกแต่งใหม่ด้วยสีทอง ทำให้แลดูหรูขึ้น ที่นี่มีนักท่องเที่ยวจีน และจากยุโรปมากเหมือนกัน เราเดินไปที่สระน้ำไปดูวิวรอบๆ เราว่าสระนํ้าเล็กมากสำหรับโรงแรมขนาดใหญ่ บรรยากาศค่อนข้างเหมือนไปเดินตลาดนัด คราครํ่าไปด้วยคนแย่งที่กันนั่งเล่นและว่ายน้ำ วันที่สดใสวิวพระอาทิตย์ตกคงสวยมากๆ

On a sunny day, the sunset would be quite spectacular.

ที่นี่มีเสน่ห์ตรงที่ชั้น11 และวิวรอบโรงแรมนั่นเอง สถานที่ค่อนข้างแออัด เราคิดว่าบาร์ริมสระน้ำคงต้องปลิ้นแน่ๆ ในวันแรกของการนัดพบ แต่อากาศคงสบายและวิวก็คงดี การเดินทางเข้าไปที่สยามสแควร์ และไปทางสนามหลวงนั้น ทำได้โดยลงเรือที่ ท่าเรือข้างตึกโบ้เบ้ เราลงเรือแค่สิบนาทีก็ไปถึง สะพานหัวช้าง เดินอีกห้านาทีก็ถึงมาบุญครอง สะดวกมาก เราคิดว่าเขาเลือกที่นี่ก็เพราะ ความแปลกของการเดินทางด้วยเรือนั่นเอง ถ้าใครต้องการซื้อเสื้อผ้าราคาโรงงานก็ไปตลาดโบ้เบ้บนตึกได้เลย

The best way to get into city center is by taking the boat ride at the pier by the Bobae Tower. It takes less than 10 minutes to reach Siam Square where the MBK (or Ma Boon Krong) shopping center with hundred of shops and restaurants waiting! From there, you could walk to the Paragon, Central World, and all the best shopping malls!

If you take the boat trip towards the east, you’ll be in the direction towards the Grand Palace and many old temples!
