Crystal Floor

With an almost timed regularity, every standard day, according to Heracles' schedule, a projectile with a packet of data arrived over the bridge, so far there was no new remarkable discovery.

ROBERT had been travelling for four days, first following a high orbit to make images of the planet and then a low polar to map its surface. So far it had been discovered that it was an aquatic world or at least there was no body of land emerged large enough to see it in the images taken from distant orbit.

Doppler sensors showed a rough ocean floor showing the existence of tectonic plates, something that is not common on planets of this type. Apart from the floating structures that were in the vicinity of the bridge, no other structures had been found so far, neither floating nor submerged.

The cosmologists of the academy of Dione, using the database of cosmic cartography, managed, through a simulation, to find coincidence in the location of five hundred thousand known objects, identified in the images sent by ROBERT and determined that the planet should be in the galaxy that, according to the catalogue of the academy of Palas, received the denomination, PNCC3234, but that, at some time was known on Earth as Bernard's Galaxy.

After four days of images of the surface of the ocean and its background, on the fifth day, six hours late compared to the time at which the previous data packages had been punctually received, a new one was received that included a video in which an excited ROBERT explained his most recent discovery.

-As you can see, I descended back to the planet's surface, because I wanted to get close images of a structure I discovered from orbit, -he explained, while showing what appeared to be strangely calm waters in the middle of the ocean in which curious icebergs floated -. What you are looking at is some kind of flat glass surface floating in the ocean, the Doppler indicates that it is about three hundred metres thick and completely translucent, it could be some sort of platform for ships to descend.

ROBERT flew over the strange platform that had a hexagonal shape and an approximate diameter of a kilometre and a half.

-There are many of these crystal stalagmite-like structures around, they don't have a regular shape, and I don't find a specific pattern by which they are organized or placed on the platform, they just seem to be randomly grouped together, -ROBERT explained.

He then took height from the platform to show images of the center of the platform that was completely clear and smooth.

-The most interesting thing of all is what they can see under the glass floor - under the completely diaphanous glass of more than three hundred meters thick, one could see, on a little deep ocean floor, what seemed to be a sunken structure -. Doesn't that structure make itself known to you? -ROBERT asked sombrely, while showing by way of comparison images of the Perseus and Andromeda ships, and of the monuments to Orpheus and Fenrir -. I think one of the colonizers went further than expected, - he said in a sardonic tone.
