RABBIT and MAD WORLD - PURE EMOTIONS - READ while LISTEN

in #emotions6 years ago (edited)

After annoying you with all sort of posts about music and Steemit and blockchains recent days, from "how to let Steemians know your post uploads are your own work, and you are you", "call for more music reviewers and posts", to "the realities around music and blockchains", I'm back the real music!

Mostly I post electronic music, but that doesn't mean I don't like other styles. To proof to you my horizon is much wider, I bring to you today a track I really like. Originally by Tears for Fears, now in the interpretation by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews created for the brilliant movie "Donnie Darko", about a guy who is hunted by some rabbit and forces Donnie to commit crimes. Not only the movie but this track made a big impact on me...

"Mad World" is the title!

The title itself is very applicable how I view the world, so many things can be classified as crazy. Not being a lyrics guy, I somehow relate to the lyrics of this song as well; Not in the sense that it is applicable to me, but I see around me so many people carrying out their daily routines, every single day, over and over again without taking the time to do something different, to spark their lives and mind. I always try to enjoy the moment, to seek adventures, to break with the daily routines. Some of my friends tell me I need to grow up! I guess they don't understand the dynamics I try to keep in my life; To bad for them :) I hope I still enjoy them with the stories about my experiences and sometimes somewhat unusual adventures and life style.

Anyway, I don't bore you with more of this, but let you find the play buttons below. Yes, buttons as in plural, since I included all the three tracks as released on the EP back in 2003, including a dance track (the third one). Of all versions, my preference is the "Alternate Version", the second one in the list of four below. In this version the instruments play a more important roll than in the original, and perfectly fits the sad sounding voice which is a little bit less sad in this version compared to the original. The dance version (the third one below), I don't really like, to much trance in a way I don't like the trance genre.

Not part of the EP by Gary and Michael, is the remix done by Paul Kalkbrenner, a German/Berlin based electronics producer and DJ/preformer. This one I do like very much!. Included for you below as well, the fourth and last one.

I saw the Donnie Darko rabbit image and had to drop in and see what was going on in here :)

I do love that song also, fitting tune for the movie. The alternate versions are new to me though, so gonna take some time to listen. Thanks :)

What a rabbit can do! :)
Let me know what you think of the other versions!

They all work for me. The original, for sure. But adding some beats, chilled or uptempo works also. Thanks for the share.

Super! Cool!

The trance one I don't like, but as mentioned in the post, I dont like that type of trance, but the others, more musical ones, I appreciate a lot as well. Always nice to hear different interpretations.

This is one of my favourite songs, encouraged to share a post with it maybe, but as lovely and haunting as Gary Jules version is a cover too and sometimes I feel like people has forgotten the original source (I know you mentioned). I am devoted though to the Tears for Fears original in the early 80s. Donny Darko featured more TFF songs too, such an odd movie.

Yep, the movie is pretty strange, but maybe because of that, I like the movie so much :)
Also, the original by Tears for Fears, is very interesting to listen, quite different to the Jules version. Funny to see how the way a song is performed, it can sound totally different.

Love the movie 'Donnie Darko' and Gary Jules' version of the song. I'm glad that you knew it was originally a Tears for Fears song. I wasn't aware of that for several years, the original sounds so off to me after hearing the Gary Jules version so much. Either way, nice and informative little compilation here.

hahaha, yeh, I grew up with Tears for Fears, and their version is quite typical sound of that 80s band! Much much quicker and all in all making it less emotional imho. Although I do like the original version by Tears for Fears, the Gary one I prefer. What you think of the Kalkbrenner remix?

One of the funny aspects of this that Tears For Fears says the cover has influenced the way they perform the song now. I read once that now they play it much slower to be more in line with Gary Jules' version. It's interesting to see a cover song affect the original artist that way. Also, the Kalkbrenner remix is pretty cool. Definiately one of the better remixes I've heard of this.

Yeh indeed, but back in the days, when Tears for Fears released this song, the way they approach music was in the fast side. Anyway, indeed, different artists have different ways of looking at the same thing, and that is why I really like remixes what happens a lot in the electronic dance music segment; You can get really interesting results by someone else having a go at some original track.

this song brought me back to the first time i watched the movie and heard the song, amazing thanks for reminding me of it ,keep it up !!!

Excellent!!! One of my favourite movies 🎥

Super :)

This movie is very emotional.
I like this ..
Thanks for sharing your post..

You're welcome

Really amazing. Thanks for this. keep doing this please.!

I see around me so many people carrying out their daily routines, every single day, over and over again without taking the time to do something different, to spark their lives and mind.

"From the way most people live, one would never guess that humans are beings of free will. Repetition can be a choice, but often it isn't. The athlete or pianist who practices the same routine day after day, year after year, has their eye on a goal. The unending repetition is a conscious choice in the pursuit of a life dream. But what about the sameness of most lives? Observe the morning commute, the after-work drink, the Sunday football game or religious service - how many of those people are consciously following their dream, training their mind, body, and spirit through that daily repetition? And how many are mindlessly slogging through each day out of habit and boredom?" - Jonathan Lockwood Huie

That quote is spot on! Very nice!
Owww, this version sounds very nice as well! Her singing is quality! I like it.

I forgot about this! Yes, I love that quote. I don't know anything else about the guy who wrote it, but I love the way it encourages consciousness of our routines and whether they support our goals.
